"As the Recruit Turns". This is such a soap opera every year....and I love it. Last minute flips, secret commitments, pre-madonnas, loyal guys who stick it out for months. I hate losing Peters and Santos, but Ive known the Big Orange to go down swinging.
A 50 yr old mentor of mine that works with teens was challenged to a fight one day by an 18yr old tough guy he was working with. The mentor said quote "I know you want to roll and let me tell you something first. You are big and tough and you are supposed to get me. Just know that when you are done you will know that I got my shots in. You will know I got ahold of you and it will sting." The boy never touched him. That is UT. Had some glory days (may in the future), but for right now, everyone is supposed to get us. Just know that they will know tomorrow that it will sting and we will get ours. VFL never quits. Love or hate Dooley, he is swinging until the end.

We are really teetering on the precipice here. My negative impression of Derek Dooley is very strong. I honestly believe he demonstrated clearly in 2011 that he is not the right guy to rebuild a program. In a different situation, he might be successful. But, I don't believe he is a turnaround guy.
But, even if you believe in Dooley, it does not change the fact that we are treading on thin ice. Missing out on the POSITION NEEDS, not just talent, for an entire class can damage a program for several seasons. If we come out of this with a new coaching staff and no OL or LB's and if worse, no Athletic DB's, we are setting up a future like we had in 2009/2010 with no OL/DL because of recruiting misses and defectors. If Dooley does not find some inspiration in his belly and coach his backside off in 2012, we will have talent gaps and a new coaching staff...again. This is getting old.
Those of you that believe in him so much that you are willing to let him run the program to rock bottom before making a change strictly because of the amount of time he has had better be right. Because, while this could get better with a good 2012, it could a lot worse real quick. Mr. Hart, it's time to get a serious wish list together...just in case.

Nero burns way worse than Rome and the Christians he persecuted. This is not Dr. Phil stuff and beating Bama and UGA is not the benchmark of UT. It is very important, don't get me wrong. My analogy is that UT needs to be UT even when it is down (which I think it has gotten away from). Even in bad seasons, we had fight and played with balls. Hope that comes back. Dooley is bad with people, bad with x's and o's and good at recruiting. He is scrappy and hopefully will bring back some fight to the UT that has turned finesse. I wasnt trying to spin anything, but was just saying UT will get theirs. May not win the recruiting war or even crack top 15, but will go down swinging as opposed to many other teams.

It stinks living in Hogland and living through the rise of the Arkansas program while Tennessee gets beatup. I was at a HS BBall game tonight and there were hog fans jacked about Peters. My face was getting red knowing that I will have to suffer through more humiliation just so that we can get a new coach that will take a few years to rebuild the program.
Petrino Petrino Petrino the hero. Give him a raise. And, no stupid Orange Pants.

Per Volnation post: Mama Croom's full post:
There are so many factors in this recruiting process. When a kids says " I had a good time" what does that mean really? At the end of the day this is a business and family decision. As a parent, Jason has NEVER thought that this decision could be made alone or on his own. I never even gave him the opportunity to think he could. Signing with UT in the morning is a win win situation for Jason and myself. He gets to go to a university that where he loves the coaches and will get to play football. I get my son educated free, into an excellent program where I can trust my kid will be safe and gets all the EXTRAS he'll need to help him be successful over the next 4 years.
My son was recruited by Arkansas too. I found them to be dishonest, and anybody who follows me here knows that I don't play when it comes to my giving you my word " I am who I say I am" we are VOLS FOR LIFE that includes Mama, Daddy, sisters brothers, cousins, aunts and uncles... oh and Jason too. lol And when 7:01a.m. tomorrow gets here; I will be more than happy to hit the send button to that (865) area code. I'm sending my son to some place I can trust the people. Where this is no discerning spirits.
I'm disturbed at coaches who are trying to recruit over our commits telling them that UT is not a winning school and that they can do better, and Dooley isnt' gonna be here. IF anybody wants to know that answer to that question, do what some of the other recruit parents did, Call Mr. Hart. Dooley aint goin NOWHERE! Anybody who knows me also know that I do my homework. I don't leave folks open to persuation of my child.
I pray that Otha's family doesn't sway and believe the unbelievable(arkansas). Don't allow people in your ear who want to get on the bandwagon in the end. Trust the people who've been there to get you over the hump. Everything that glitter aint gold; its plated, and once you get some soap on that mess it begins to flake and fall off revealing its true self.
I personally am looking forward to hanging out with Otha's mom! We had a ball together in Dallas at the Offense Defense Bowl and a few weeks ago on the officical to UT. Prayfully she keeps the same ground and standing that she had when she left the airport in Knoxville. One thing I heard is that she didn't even go to Arkansas with Otha; that's a plus, so if she felt strongly enough not to be bothered with them after meeting their head coach... that's a testament and a hint and a half ... not to trust your baby with them.
Tell y'all the same thing I told Jason. Nothing happens with those scholarship papers until my signature is on there; and I don't give a ants butt if you're happy or not; I'm still in control until you're 21 and by that time he'll be going into the league I hope, then he can take care of me. lol

Which coaches are you blaming? The coaches that jumped ship when it became painfully obvious that Dooley is a lame duck or the coaches who realized that UT is the undisputed BCS champion in one thing: giving unproven coaches ridiculously high buyout clauses.
Dave Hart screwed up when he didn't pull the trigger right after UK. He must have bought into Dooley's awww-shucks bamboo mushrooms and I have Nick Saban's cell phone number routine just like a lot of the so called "expert" posters who think that if it took Johnny Majors 8 years to post a great season, then by God, that's the blueprint for everyone.

The headlines on the KNS Sports page the last couple of days suggest that the editor is going beyond reporting, and gloating over the Vols' misfortunes in recruiting. Somehow, this doesn't seem what our home town newspaper should be doing.

And yet Rivals (which is generally considered the superior college ranking service) has us at #13 with the commitment of Patterson this morning. The truth is no one ever knows how these kids will pan out. You can read a lot of articles about highly ranked classes that just bombed out. Do I even have to mention Bryce Brown?
DalTexVol writes:
Scout now has us at 22 with Rivals at 13. Interestingly, Scout ranks Patterson as a 5 star and Rivals has him as a 4 star.

Be a Hog fan, problem solved.
Dont get too worked up about all this. Peters may turn out to be a great player or not. Bottom line, he went where he wanted to go.
This class will be judged on how many make it to the field and play as a team. It will be measured in W-L's.
Now is just the time to sit back and look forward to the ones that do sign and not the ones that sign elsewhere.
GO VOLS!!

At 12:22 cst today a Peters Twitter account tweet said he would be in Knoxville Thurs to sign and meet his new team mates. Could have been a fake. However per Rivals he has not signed yet and was scheduled to at 8:30 this morning.

He signed now so disregard post above.
