Vonn Bell includes Tennessee in final seven

Vonn Bell spent his Saturday enjoying the thrills of the Six Flags Amusement Park. It was a needed break after one of the most important — and sometimes difficult — days of the Ridgeland (Ga.) High School football star's young life.

Bell, rated one of the top safety prospects in the country according to recruiting services, spent a big part of Friday informing 20 prominent football programs across the country that he no longer would be considering them for his future matriculation. What was bad news for the likes of Notre Dame, Auburn and UCLA was in turn great news for the seven schools still under consideration.

According to Bell, in no official order, the finalists are Ohio State, Texas, Clemson and four SEC schools — Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee and Vanderbilt.

Wow no posts on how we need to keep instate talent coming to Knoxville, that is good. He is from GA. It seems he has a lot of choices because he is such a great talent. So it is now up to our coaches to get after it. As for "they forgot to recruit him" and all the other jazz, that's history. We are now in a new and different cycle. Come on Vonn, come to Knoxville. You will not regret it.

Yes Dooley is now recruiting this kid, 100% agree with that. BUT your article is 1 day after the 1 I linked...In other words, somebody had to remind Dooley the kid existed or there wouldn't have been a follow up article written 1 day later. I want this kid here but that phooey of not returning calls or showing interest to a 5 star prospect that shows interest in UT is TOTAL BS.

"... somebody had to remind Dooley ..." Why would you say something like that? How would you know? Do you spend a lot of time in the UT football offices?

I spend ZERO time in UT's office and honestly I wouldn't know where to go if I walked into the front door.
But here is the cliff notes so read for yourself. no smoke screen.
" But while he has two SEC offers, Bell is still awaiting word from the one school he wants to hear from. He said he grew up a Tennessee fan, but several attempts by Mariakis to contact UT coaches have been unsuccessful. The lack of correspondence from Knoxville has been especially frustrating for Mariakis, who said UT was one of the 20-plus schools to whom he sent video. He said he has called the Volunteers' football offices twice, but hasn't heard back.

"I'm not bad-mouthing them. They're busy and we're just one high school, but I just want to know if they have any interest at all," Mariakis said. "That's the frustrating thing. Here's a kid who is interested in them and makes no secret about that and who is a no-brainer as far as talent, character and grades. We would just like a return call to let us know if they're interested or not.

"He has never gone to a single camp, so nobody knew about him before we sent out the highlight DVD. But now he's getting big-time offers from coaches who have never seen him in person, just on film. To get a major D-I offer means you're awfully good, but for the head coach of the defending national champs to offer you personally, that just says how special you are. Coach Saban said it only took a couple of plays and the whole staff was sold on him."

He has started two seasons at guard, one at tackle and this year will be the starting center. Has huge grades, going to major in civil engineering. Stanford, Miss. State recruiting him pretty hard, GA beginning to show interest & some smaller schools pursuing him right now. Here is his espn recruiting video--his dad and I are best friends...great athlete, great student, better yet a great young man. http://espn.go.com/video/clip?id=8024211

Yeah dude, I read both articles. And the paper the next day or two later was saying how excited he was to get the call. So what's your point, or do you have some infantile believe that Dooley should immediately call every kid who says he's interested in UT? Fella, this is big boy stuff, not the make believe stuff you hear on the playground.

I have total confidence that Dooley and his people are hard on the trail of every kid they are interesed in. And by NCAA rule, Dooley can't even mention the name of a recruit until they're signed. So no one knows what Dooley is up to, except by what we hear from people outside of the UT football offices. So stop the "... somebody had to remind Dooley ..." crapola.

If Dooley wants a kid, Dooley'll get the kid.

Somebody looking for 6 or 7 visits isn't serious about making a decision and probably just wants the attention..I may be a pessimist but if UT were listed in the top 3 it would seem more story worthy..

AtopTheHill06 writes:

The recipe for getting this kid and other big time recruits is more wins this year. No high school football player wants to go into his college career with uncertainty. By getting 8-9 wins+ upper-tier bowl game this year, CDD and staff will show recruits that UT is a contender, and ready to compete for championships again.

The Tennessee Brand pretty much sells itself, with more wins next season the status quo will be restored in Knoxville again.

Book It.

So, Dooley wanted none of the 5-stars? You think you're complimenting him, but really you're making him look incompetent.

Just so you know, I really don't pay all that much attention to recruiting until LOI NSD gets a whole lot closer. Since the coaches and schools can't talk about their recruiting, all the recruiting news is rumor and innuendo. Besides, these verbal commits have just as much meaning as what these kids tell their latest female BFF in the paradise by the dashboard light.

Makes sense Naval....I forgot how stupid ole Brett Maverick is. Like my grandpa used to say..."That boy is dumber than a sack of hammers". We could make some easy money though. Just take his picks and bet the opposite.

Man..I cannot wait til August in Atlanta. I live about 40 minutes from the Georgia Dome and will be there early to get in the "spirit(s)". The Vols will lay a smack-down on the Wolf Cubs to get the season started right. Go Vols. Go Dooley.

The program went way down before Dooley arrived. Dont underestimate the long term effect Dooley is having by cleaning up the program. A lot of parents are gonna look around the SEC and notice that the thiefs and druggies are absent from UT and, therefore, they will encourage their sons to come to UT. It takes time to rebuild from scratch. Now that Florida has made a colossal hiring error with their coaches, TN will quickly close the gap.
