Mychal Rivera on Mackey Award watch list

Tennessee senior Mychal Rivera is on the preseason John Mackey Award watch list for the honor that goes to the nation's top collegiate tight end.

Last season Rivera was named to John Mackey Award midseason watch list. Rivera had 29 catches for 344 yards and a TD.

No Tennessee player has won the Mackey Award, although Jason Witten (2002) and Luke Stocker (2010) were semifinalists for the honor.

The winner will be announced as part of the ESPNU College Football Awards Show on Dec. 6.

Congrats. People are recognizing our offensive players. That has to help our recruiting and with us having a good year on the field our guys will get the recognition they deserve.

More and more watch lists coming out of K'ville. Maybe, just maybe, the people who actually work in this business know more than our local experts. (I'm talking, of course, about our self proclaimed experts).

He's gotta be the most overlooked player in the SEC. Not because no one knows about him, but because of the two guys playing Wide Receiver: Hunter, and Rogers.

The guy is a match up nightmare, and I think he'll go pretty high in the draft cuz of the influences of Vernon Davis and Gronkowski. He's fast, he's got size and strength, and he has good hands. What linebacker is fast enough to cover him? What safety has the size to tackle him without help?

He dropped a lot of passes last year.

I would personally love to see Mychal put up some big numbers with catches, tds and also put down some defenders with monster blocks for the running game. I am just glad we are having some players be noticed as potentials for awards. Now let's translate that potential into reality and go get some opponent's rear ends. Go Mychal, GO BIG ORANGE!

Is that raindrops? Is the sky falling? Oh I'm sorry that was a negative poster chiming in....please research thrown to and receptions to validate your statement...not disputing..just saying back it up...

Mike is a good TE. He had a couple of good games before Hunter went down. Good soft hands. He needs to have 40 catches this year.

I agree. I excpected him to be used more, but he just didnt have the impact he could have. Maybe it was because the young Qbs werent running through their reads, but I expect big things from the passing game this year.

I expect big things from him this season IF, and a big IF, Bray has learned to read the D better and he'll stop focusing too much on 1 target and has learned to read his progressions much better.

CDD has always said he wants to run more 2 TE sets and he's tried to recruit better TE prospects but Cam Clear let us down in a huge way and set us back a year or 2 at our TE position.

VFL...GBO!!!
