Summer is almost over, believe it or not. Tennessee's football team will report for fall camp on Aug. 2.
The Vols hit the practice field for the first time the following day.
The opening practice is exactly four weeks before the Aug. 31 season-opener against North Carolina State in Atlanta at the Georgia Dome.

I'm with you but I don't think we have a choice. But if things go the way I think(Hope) they will, Aug 31 will just be another practice day.
Vols 28- NCS 14
10-2 plus a bowl

I wish I could forget that Kentucky game and how we weren't really in any of the big games last year. Almost an all new coaching staff running a new defense. I wish I thought we could go 10-2.
Big_Orange_Aide writes:
It's going to be a lot different and better year; even if there are injuries, our team will be much better equipped to deal with them.
OrangePsyched writes:
The UK loss bothered me for about 2 months. I finally realized the enevitable fact that we would have to lose to them eventually. You know the law of averages and all that. No one has ever gone undefeated against a team that they play EVERY year. It's better than going in 9-2 this year and get upset. We're going to have a great year and start another long streak against them and everyone else. I am psyched.
gc_scvol writes:
Can't wait. We're going to be greatly improved this year..Better O line, which translates into better running game and better pass protection for Bray to deliver to what will be the best receiving corps in the SEC and possibly the nation. How can you call yourself a VOL fan if you can't get excited this time of year and things look so much better after a bad stretch. Think positive and get behind our Vols..GBO .. VFL

2011 was 2011. Getting ready to start 2012 new hopes, new coaches, a new scheme on the D side. New running game. And hopefully new outcome to the season. I'm trying to be realist for an 8 win season.

Huttdawg100: Thanks for the link. Compelling read. Must admit that I like to see Tennessee get so many nods on the defensive side of the projections. There is no doubt that this offense will be exciting. If our defense can give the ball back to Bray and the Boys, then we will pile on points very quickly. So many question marks though. We won't know until August 31st. Go Vols!

Vols,
Checking out the responses..........very optimistic thinking, which is good. The team is going to be pretty well stocked with talent and depth for a change.
Like the rest of you, I can't wait. Trying to decide which game/games to see this year.
Darn it, it did hurt giving up those season tickets I had since 1973. One game, actually two I want to see........Missouri and of course, the date with Kentucky. Without those season tickets, Florida and Alabama games are going to be more difficult to get.
Go Vols

NC State = W (sets the season's tone)
GA State = W (may be hard to stay awake)
FL Gators= W (Dooley's 1st signature win and Muskrat has a stroke. Win-Win situation)
Akron Zips= L (Just kidding...r u paying attn?)
GA Dogs = L (I hope I am wrong about this)
MS State = W
Alabubba = L (sigh)
LameCocks = W (Visor Boy is going down)
Troy Trojans = W (Trojan Man!!!!!!)
MO Tigers = W (If Neyland is rockin don't come knockin)
CommodeDoors = W (All we do is kick Vandy's ***)
Mildcats = W (Revenge is mine sayeth the Dooley)
There you have it a 10-2 season with a nice New Year's bowl to wrap things up! Who's with me???

You Dolts get yourselves all worked up every year at this time. The Hall of Famer's era is over. The greatest run in the history of UT football is over. It is not a right for UT to win 10 games in a season just because Phil almost averaged that. Tenn has won 10+ games 20 times since 1891. Phil was responsible for 9 of them directly in 16 years. Enjoy the tailgates. All the excitement you will have this year.
Another 5-7.

Here's part of the story from the link...
"In fact, Tennessee is the only SEC school that still has 600 or more wins if you take away the winningest coach’s win total. The Vols would still have 621 even if you didn’t count Neyland’s 173 wins.
Only eight other schools nationally would have more than 600 wins if you took away their winningest coach -- Miami (Ohio), Michigan, Navy, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Texas and USC."

Statistics and Liars.
For those who aren't sure which is which:
10 game seasons weren't regular until 1928 and bowl games didn't come in to vogue until 1938. The 11 game schedule wasn't introduced until 1965. Try counting the number of zero, one and two loss seasons and then compare.

UT fans are correct to expect big things now that we have finally fixed our roster issues. If I was a florida fan like you, the last thing you should do after the biggest underachieving coach in the SEC (muskrat) showed you florida's future, would be to hang out on a UT website. The Vols WILL BE passing the underachievers of the east on YOUR way down. You're an embarrassment to florida fans everywhere but are too "simple" to realize it.
Navaloranges writes:
UT will win AT LEAST 8 and you simple minded juveniles with no lives will be GONE. UT will not, has not, and NEVER WILL stay down for long. A FACT that further proves that Simpletons such as yourself do nothing but talk out of your backsides. It's a shame that kids like you are so attention starved that you have to make stuff up and pester adults to get your jollies.
WetumpkaThumpa writes:
It's still nice to be ahead of the team you pull for. What's that say about your team? HA HA! You have a whole lot of catching up to do.
WetumpkaThumpa writes:
P.S. you are kind of right. Florida didn't start playing with the big boys and the rest of the SEC until 1990. Before that Ole Miss had more tradition and history.
WetumpkaThumpa writes:
Congratulations on your under performing baseball program. Weren't you guys ranked number one pretty much all season? Kent State? SMH.
FanNotSheep writes:
Summer won't be over on August 2 just because football practice starts. The heat might slack off by October if we're lucky. Fans need to put the last few years behind them and move on. This is a new team with more SEC-caliber athletes, incoming JUCOs to provide quality depth to get us over the hump, and I really doubt we will be losing to KY and Vandy this year. In fact, I won't be surprised if the Vols beat Florida.
The SEC is unbelievably tough so getting to the top again will not be easy, but with the players we have now UT won't be on the bottom either.

FanNotSheep writes:
Signing Day is in February. By then the players will most likely know that the Vols won 8 or 9 games and the head coach isn't going to be fired. That will move the class up to the top half in the SEC. If the Vols don't have a good year and Dooley is either gone or on the edge, you can write off another recruiting class, and that will set the program even further back. Which is why all the Negative Nancys are hurting the team.

Great response Naval. Dont even take the Fulmer topic as troll bait. Fulmer is gone and its time for true UT fans to get on the bus or be left behind. Publications all around the country are recognizing UT's talent and potential. Its a shame some fans cant let the past go and support the team they love. I'm optimistic. So what if I got let down. Its not like that hasnt happened with every coach in history. Now is Dooley's time to show what he can do.

projections dont mean squat .i just like to see the offense come out and run straight down their throat . i worry alot less about the D than i do the offense comming out and being predictable and the line standing straight up off the ball like last year ,if those guys make a statement from the start then i think the D will feed off that . if not things could go the other way .

Regrettably, my take on the football Vols in the past four or five years is that they pretty much quit when they get behind. There could be many reasons for this, but even some of their opponents have noticed it. Hopefully, with more experience, greater depth, and fewer critical injuries, there will be a dramatic improvement in confidence. As we've seen with athletes like Tiger Woods, once you lose your mental edge, you're history.
