When Tennessee offensive tackle Dallas Thomas starts his 26th consecutive game in the season opener against North Carolina State on Aug. 31, he'll do so as an Outland Trophy candidate.
Thomas, a 6-foot-5, 300-pound senior was one of 71 interior linemen included in the Outland Watch List released Thursday. The award, voted on by the Football Writers Association of America, goes to the top lineman.
In 12 starts last year, Thomas anchored a UT offensive line that allowed just 18 sacks, third-fewest in the SEC.
The Outland Trophy, presented annually since 1946, is chosen from three finalists who are part of the FWAA All-America Team.

I hope Dallas proves to be a worthy candidate and helps lead the rest of the O-line to more prominence. We are getting a lot more recognition in all areas of our team. Next week is media time in Hoover. It's getting closer. This team is on the threshold of bringing the Vols back to the top 2-3 teams in the SEC.

the team has the most potential offensively on paper than almost any other team in recent memory. of course on the field and paper talent are two different worlds altogther. still say the vols go 10-3 this year and play on NYD.

Some football genius posted that on an earlier blog so it must be true. I have put all my UT stuff and game tickets out in the trash for pick-up. Maybe our new coach can get us turned around in 3-5 years. Sigh.........

It will be interesting to see if the O-Line gels this year. They needed off-seasons and birthdays since only Thomas had the benefit of a redshirt year. James and Richardson look like future NFL tackles, and there is size, experience, and depth inside. UT will be starting mostly second and third year players instead of mostly first and second year players.

Our linemen on both sides of the ball need to develope a nasty streak and refuse to lose attitude to reach their potential this season.
Pass blocking has been good but now the O line needs to become road graders for our running game.
