Tennessee’s preseason award check list continues to grow.
Linebacker A.J. Johnson and quarterback Tyler Bray were announced Monday on preseason college football award watch lists.
Johnson, a junior, is among 51 linebackers on the Butkus Award watch list. The award, named for Dick Butkus, goes to the outstanding collegiate linebacker.
Bray, also a junior, is among 25 quarterbacks on the Manning Award list.
The Manning Award, in honor of former UT star Peyton Manning, goes to an outstanding quarterback and is unique in that bowl performance is considered. It is bestowed by the Sugar Bowl.

There seems to be a general consensus among a lot of people who truly know sports that we do, in fact, have some really big-time talent this year. Doubters beware. This could possibly be the year we really turn this thing around. GBO...VFL

Isn't AJ just a sophomore, or was he a juco with 3 years eligibility?

You beat me to it. He's a true sophomore. He plays like a junior though. What a beast!

The Manning Award. Given annually since 2004!
(isn't Manning the guy that lost the Heisman to a DB?)
Any candidates for the Woodson Award?:)

Both Curt and AJ started as true freshmen. I believe that was the first time in a long time Tennessee ever did that.

Assuming no injuries and a mediocre running game (75-110 yrds/game), we should be a beast with the air assault. 400+ yards a game total offense is certainly within reach with the possible exception being Alabubba

local paper doesn't even know one of our best players is a sophomore, not a junior. yikes.
PUL4VOLS writes:
Local paper not knowing a lot about a number of our players may be yikes but not much of a surprise. A lot of things have to fall into place, including avoiding injuries to big time players and team leaders. But the talent is there for a break out year. I am one who hopes that is what we see starting in a place where traditionally the Vols have not played their best ball, the GA Dome. I hope they un Pack some Wolfpack in that game and cannot wait til the season gets underway. All the preseason hype and award watch lists are great. But I am looking forward to seeing it on the field instead of on paper and in posts. GO VOLS!

Bama only played one decent passing team in Arky and they got some good yardage against them.If you can create time in the pocket a good passing attack can neutralize bama's defense..A tall task but not impossible, especially with the athletes UT will line up at WR..GBO!!

Thank you so much for the link. I do believe I'm going to have to learn to play this song on my guitar. Excellent song and video.
Thanks again.

Really hope the boys stay healthy. I want to see what this team can do fielding its best players. Last season simply would have been very different with Hunter and Bray all year. This year could be absolutely crazy! Go Vols!

i would rather U T average 200 yds passing and 200 yds rushing then to average 400 yds passing a game. we need to be a ball control team and be able to wear down opponents.defensive backs are too quick and defensive lineman are to quick rushing the Q B to live by the passing game in this league .

Everybody knows the real story. You really are a pathetic little momma's boy in desperate need of attention.
Navaloranges writes:
Too busy with "comical" tweets and trying to get the "dirt" I guess. It's a crying shame all the real pieces are saved for the pay site. They could have so much more exposure, which would in turn enable them to profit more from advertising.
There are fewer and fewer player stories and Vol features on the free outlets at kns every year. I doubt I'm alone in thinking they made the wrong move by putting all their eggs in the pay site basket..

Thanks for the writeups. It's nice to be able to learn about UT commits.

Thanks to good recruiting by CDD & staff our UT Vols are finally starting to get some recognition by awards commitees.
Now the boys just have to come together as a solid team that never gives up and puts out 100% effort on every play and the Wins should start rolling in this season.
VFL...GBO!!!
