State's top-rated football prospect picks Southern Cal

Brentwood Academy defensive back Jalen Ramsey is aware how most Tennessee fans feel about former Vols Coach Lane Kiffin.

But the state’s top-rated senior football prospect has his own views, and they will take him to Southern California next year.

Ramsey committed to play for Kiffin and the Trojans on Monday over Vanderbilt, his other finalist.

“Vandy is a lot like USC, to be honest, as far as the academics,” Ramsey said. “It just came down to what I was comfortable with more.”

I think Kiffen has more security in his job than Dooley does right now.

Get over it, they dont' owe loyalty to a University just because they're from the state. This may be one of the dumber things posted on this site.

Its obviouls that this player wanted more than just exposure. USC offers a "life style" that UT and CDD do not want to offer. I am like most, I don't care for Lane Kiffen, he tells everyone it was an act, I don't think so, this guy is a master manipulator, when is it an act and when is it the real thing? some kids are going to fall for his allure and some of these kids parents will see right through Lane Kiffen and his gang. It is my opinion that these kids have the right to choose, but Jaylen is going to realize that Southern California is not Tennessee and he will get lost in that crowd of players that got caught up in the same hype of Lane Kiffen and USC West. I was actually a Trojan fan until LK and his gang went there. I only see them as a bunch of coaches stretching the rules and elaborating or saying whatever this 17/18 year old wants to hear. Time will tell if I am right or wrong, but I belive Jaylen picked the wrong school and coaches. Question; Wasn't LK a recuiter when the Bush issues took place?......hmmmm

GBO!!

No openings, and I believe LK is using TM for his connection to Tennessee for recuiting, TM, although a great QB in 1998, has not proven to be much more than a recuiter, UK time did not prove much. I love the player, but it doesn't mean he can coach.

So what about when UT gets kids from other states?

Is it OK for those kids not to be loyal to their respectful states?

Seventy five percent of winning is recruiting. The VOLS cant even out recruit Penn State.

Franklin is killing Dooley in state. This kid was down to Vandy and USC with UT not even a choice. Last year Franklin stole the states top recruit. Nice to see Vandy in the running for the best in the state again. Good luck to the young man, Kiffin and USC will be National Title contenders. Being a Vandy fan glad we dont have to recruit against Kiffin in the SEC.

Seventy five percent of recruiting is winning. We win this year. Vols get their share. NSD is six months away. Penn St is a teetering wall about to crumble. UT is buidling a new house. Patience is a virtue. I say...Wait...

Under those circumstances its a miracle that Dooley has been able to recruit at all.

No surprise here, USC's been his favorite for a long time, when you haven't had a decent season in 4 years it's hard to get elite talent even if it's in state. A good season this year will fix a lot of that.

Stupid comment. If that's the case, Peyton Manning would have gone to LSU, being in New Orleans. And, countless others. See how many on your roster right now are from within the state. This goes on everywhere.

What? Harris wanted to be all Trojan, only coming here because of family. The article up on him has him admitting that.

I think a lot of Vols fans are confusing being loyal with reality. Being realistic doesn't mean you aren't supporting the Vols or staff.

The fact is Lane Kiffin managed to post a winning season, even if his only season, Dooley has not. Lane Kiffin is one of the best recruiters in the business, go look at the Rivals and 247 ranking to believe it.

Dooley seems like a good guy, but since when are we measuring the success of our football program on 'likeability?'

We're being outplayed on the field and outrecruited off of it. This roster is loaded with Lane Kiffin recruited talent and when these guys are gone we're in trouble. (also see men's basketball where another mid major coach is stocking the roster with CUSA talent).

On the one hand a 8-4 or better season would be great for the fans, players, and anyone associated with UT sports, but a successful season (since 8-4 is the now the mark of success with our program) would also mean another year of keeping around an inept coach and staff. Catch-22.

in all fairness , and dont get me wrong im not taking up for handicappedbreath but Vandy was a contoversial call away from beating U T last year and personally i thought we were very fortunate to win that game . i also watched the Vandy Florida matchup and if not for a monumental effort by the refs helping the Gators out( two terrible calls close to the end ) , the Dores had a good shot at beating FloriDUH.

I would add to this great post, In three years, Kiffin got USC back to 10-2. So the state of Tenn need to move on and get over Kiffin, he was the right choice. Im mad he left but intelligent people knew he was gifted just cocky. Where does Dooley have us after three years?

Please post excuses/name calling here:

Don't try to spin it now that he's choosing to go somewhere else. An elite in state prospect who received his very first scholarship offer from UT chooses to head 2,000 miles west to play for a proven coach and recruiter and for a program expected to compete for a national championship while we on the other hand coming off back to back losing seasons with an on-the-bubble coach and staff.

Dumb move, Jalen, dumb move...

I wish this young man well. It is his decision but he will face a lot more adversity out west than he would have in Tennessee. It is about as big a joke as could be told, USC is about the same as Vandy academically, I don't think so. They are good but not in the Vanderbilt range. That is ludicrous, arrogance of the west coast. Now, will Ramsey even get a shot with all the talent they have out there? I am sure Twinky the head coach has assured him of that. We shall see. Not getting the top rated prospect in the state does not mean the Vols will not be better this year. I am waiting to see how that goes and believing it will be in the positive. All trolls, back under the bridges until the dust is settled on the 2012 season.
