WHITEHORSE, Yukon, Canada — With UT second baseman Lauren Gibson supplying some punch, the USA Softball team won its first game on Wednesday, beating China, 13-0 in a four-inning game at the ISF Fastpitch World Championships.
Gibson went 2-for-3, drove in two runs and scored two runs, giving her nine runs scored and seven RBIs for the Championships. She also has homered three times.
She reached base in her first 10 plate appearances before being retired. Then she doubled home two runs in the third against China.
Gibson went 0 for 2 in a 4-0 win over the Netherlands Wednesday night.
USA is 6-0 in pool play, outscoring its opponents 64-0. The Americans will play Argentina today.
