I think I'd like 247? But I won't pay for it. Too many more important things to pay for .lol
Besides I can get most of this info free somewhere. I personally hope 247 does well though...seriously I do.

A local radio station here in Jacksonville was evaluating Muschamp's 2013 class and I think they had Florida rated 3rd and hinted at a few more commitments this week. 17 of the 18 commits they said were four star or above. It just keeps getting tougher in the SEC

i daresay that there isn't one fact printed inside the 247 firewall that isn't in the public domain within hours. as for opinions, you could equal quality from the comments scrawled on the doors of the stalls in the student center.
arkyvol writes:
i note that along with the like of vandy and kentucky, the vols are in the same neighborhood with the hogs. that's no shocker. the hogs aren't known for their recruiting prowess, but they've been able to cover up their lack of talent with superior coaching. if that doesn't scare you, there's no hope.
keepitreal4vols writes:
per 24/7 article "It also allows literally thousands of prospects to be ranked, something that sets 247Sports far ahead of any other network covering recruiting"
Then why does 3 of our commits have N/A? Again, your pay site stinks.

I agree. I will take Petrino and his Offensive prowess next year.

I think I will give Dooley a little more time to get this situation on track before I turn to the likes of Petrino. That guy might take a program way, way down.

If you told anyone at the start of the 1997 season that UT would win the BCS championship making the Seminoles look like a bunch of whiny punks in the process, they would have laughed at you until they passed out. Talent means a lot but chemistry tops all. Recruiting is just a measure of potential talent. As long as we are in the top 25 in recruiting we will always have a shot at the national stage.
It's up to the players and the coaches to make it work. There's a lot to the good lately and some to the bad but if stats and rankings were the only measure of success, there would be no reason to even play the game. We'd just tally up the points that might mean something and declare a winner.
I'll wait for it and cheer every Saturday in the Fall for the orange and white like I always have.

We have a long way to go with this recruiting class. The two-star guys will have to drop off. We should ALWAYS finish with at least ten four-star guys in a recruiting class. If we're gonna challenge for SEC titles, we also have to land five-star talent.
oldster writes:
I am somewhat disappointed with the ranking. However, I recall how many highly ranked kids Kiffen brought in and how few amounted to anything but trouble. I would rather have kids brought in that stick around for 4 or 5 years and contribute in the last year than those busts. An example I would give would be the walk on program that made Nebraska under Tom Osborne so great. He took a bunch of local kids with zero stars (sound familiar) put them on the weights and nutrition for two or three years and walla - very good offensive linemen. Could this be the Kendrick kid? He is big. He is athletic. He is a good kid. Let's hope for him and us.
oldster writes:
Yeah! I'll do his divorce for free and help pay for his girl friend as long as he agrees to stay off the motorcycle.
oldster writes:
Either that or have coaches that evaluate better than the recruiting services do. I think some coaches rely on those services or just recruit the highly rated guys to look good and win the recruiting wars and really do not evaluate the players (Lane Kiffen comes to mind - sometimes Phil Fullmer seemed to have suffered from this as well).
oldster writes:
And that last minute Kiffen coup that he stole from the Gators that could not even catch a punt, much less return it, and tried to steal a guy's sandwhich with a toy gun?
oldster writes:
I would like to point out to everyone that UT's most recent National Championship in football came 47 years after the next most recent one. It has only been 14 years now. However, even if it is another 33 years before another, well, I still think we can enjoy the team if we just give it a chance. Why? Because I followed the team for most of those 47 years without a national championship and enjoyed most of them - even the Bill Battle years thanks to Condredge Holloway. So come on guys. Enjoy what we have. Life is too short to waste it complaining all the time.
mountainbrook writes:
They need to considering the disaster that Muskrat's first recruiting class has become.
Awsomeorange writes:
There are several highly rated recruits that are high on UT right now. Once they see the Vols are makin strides in the right direction we will definitely get our share. But i have seen plenty in the past with 5 stars and all everything when they come in and cant get off the bench. I'll take a good 3 star that works his tail off over lazy blue chippers that wants everything handed to them. If you build it Coach, they will come...GO VOLS lets start that climb
DeltaCharlie3 writes:
You mean the next Percy Harvin?
I argued and argued with people on this site that Nukeese Richardson was a solid prospect, but needed a redshirt year, and even then shouldnt be counted on to do anything until about his 3rd year. But no, many didn't want to hear that, he was the next Percy!
mocsandvolsfan writes:
While I know there are 4 and 5 stars who ARE lazy and want handouts you can also say there are 2 and 3 star athletes who are lazy. They maybe are a 2 or 3 star because of that laziness or maybe lack of desire or training...whatever. There are also 4 and 5 star athletes who are that because of maybe great coaching or hard work...Wheaties...who knows?
This is why stars do not necessarily tell you what you're getting in an athlete.
The real hope is a combo of all this ...coaching , desire, hard work ethic, physical attributes, physical conditioning, nutrition good restful sleep, no beer. etc...
You can't recruit all players by the star system. I don't deny though that it seems like it helps and I hope to see some more 5 stars come in here.
govolsn3 writes:
Remeber these are verbally comitted and the list will always be changing, so take care of business during the season and get this new facility done when the kids come to the games and UT will climb right back up where they are always going to be. You can't hide money and by the way the football training facility is looking it is a place to spring right up to the NFL so here comes the 5 stars. It is just that simple.

Exactly! It's a long time until signing day. Getting too wrapped up in these rankings tbis early is a waste. My prediction is we win 9 ball games this year and end up with a top 15 class.
TheVolSnake writes:
I ran the numbers:
Just for the fun of it I went though Kiffen’s class #10 Rivals and used their point system and removed all the players that left, the point total may surprise you we ended up with 451 points and I didn’t subtract all the bonuses from the 3 Star players and below.
So what was a top 10 class in reality the class was #60 ranked class, just above Cincinnati.
To top that off the 2008 class was at #35 and only four of these players are to start or have significant playing time this year.
So as you can see the cupboard was bare when Dooly took over
CCLC writes:
Kudos to the work you did there ..... Tom Osborne coached over a decade and a half ago. College ball has changed. Looking for a mentor for UT? Pick Saban. He has created a semi-pro league at Bama. Look at his staff numbers and the way he handles scholarships, and recruiting. Yeah anyone who doesn't follow his business plan will not compete. SOD is not Osborne. Not even close. Lane is at uSC for the same amt of time SOD is at UT and with NCAA penalties he is everyone's top 5. UT can't cherry pick Georgia for talent anymore. UT could be the next ND of football. Great memories... tradition..... etc. Still not gonna win the SEC.
