Michigan State long snapper says he's going to be a Vol

A long snapper indicated Friday via Twitter that he is transferring from Michigan State to Tennessee.

Matt Giampapa, from Jackson, Tenn., won the starting job at Michigan State as a freshman walk-on last fall.

The 6-foot-2 245-pound former University School of Jackson standout started 13 games as a long snapper for Michigan State.

After being suspended for the Outback Bowl he announced in the spring he was leaving school to get closer to home.

Friday, Giampapa tweeted that he has been "working out" in Knoxville for a couple of days and will be joining the UT team. He later tweeted, "So glad to be a Volunteer."

So now the trade for Arnett is completed...eligibility?

Always good to have kids want to come home to play. Sounds like he must be pretty good to have started all 13 games as a freshman. I hope the suspension for the Outback Bowl, for "violation of team rules," isn't anything to be concerned about. I'll have to trust our coaches on that one.

Is this kinda like a trade for Arnett?

1. His suspension for the Outback Bowl was excessive punishment for what he did. If I had been the coach of the Spartans, I would have given him a medal instead of punishing him.

2. Matt is a great long snapper. Too bad he has no one to snap it to.

DwayneElizondoMountainDewHerbertCamacho writes:

The Knoxville News Sentinel went on to say:

"Whether Matt Giampapa would be able to transfer to the University of Tennessee was in doubt until very recently. Unfortunately for Giampapa, Michigan State Coach Mark Dantonio had restricted his ability to transfer to any Big 10 school or the University of Tennessee.

Coach Dantonio had previously remarked on the transfer restrictions, 'I feel like I need to make an example out of him,' said Dantonio. 'Also, I'm angry that he doesn't want to be part of my program and since he came from Tennessee, I feel like I would be rewarding him to let him go back to his home state.'

However, Coach Dantonio quickly lifted the restriction after being reminded that he occasionally likes to recruit in Tennessee. The possibility that maintaining the restriction would make him come off as a petty control freak also may have played a role in allowing Giampapa to transfer.

When asked for a comment, University of Tennessee Coach Derek Dooley said, 'You know, the level of irony associated with these events is just too much for even me to spin. I'll just leave it up to my tireless supporters to somehow justify my hypocrisy."

Of course this kid wants to transfer to play for the Vols. He knows the way Dooley handles head cases like Janzen Jackson and Da'rick rogers. The kid knew he was on a short leash at Michigan State and knows if he comes here that Dooley will give at least 3 chances to screw up unless he steals a lap top

Remember a player named Al Wilson from West TN? Cedric Wilson from Memphis? Eric Still? Many, many others but obviously your stupidity and prejudice coming from your asinine comments preclude your ability to think or comment rationally. It is really easy being stupid, isn’t it?

My comment replied to yours of one disparaging all of West TN and your feeble attempt to trash all from Memphis. Phil would still be head coach and Chief leading the defense if they had gotten Donte.
Just attempting to keep I-40 open from the River to the Hill. CC apparently was a thug and from Memphis. Last time I looked, that city remains in Tennessee with a large population of potential D1 athletes. Comments such as yours won’t help to convince the good ones to come east.
BTW, will decline the offer to engage you in KYA activity, but thanks. Don’t see determining your eye color is pertinent to the thread.

Since this kid was a walk-on I really don't think Dantonio could restrict where he would go and play. His not being on Scholarship limits what he could be restricted on. I'm not total sure about this but most of the releasing has to do with the Scholarship not anything else. Once he sits out the year required by the NCAA he would be ready to play anywhere he wanted to.

You seem to be another one of these hypocrites who think everyone else must be perfect but who is so far from perfect yourself. You seem to be One of those guys who if the Big Guy was here and said "Let He who is without sin cast the first stone", You would pelt the phooey out of somebody. Congratulations for playing the game at the collegiate level. Condolences for your experience in MEM. Confirmation that trauma experienced in youth prevents cognitive development.

My, my, my, are your violent tendencies concussion related or by product of being on the juice? Please seek help.
My response, which reasoning obviously eludes you, concerned your condemnation of an entire geographical area because of the actions of a sophomore tight end. I was unaware of your personal experiences. Your myopic views don’t justify, however insignificant, your comments damaging the ability of our VOL’s ability to recruit good student athletes from Shelby County.
Hope you find solace in Madison County. Mine comes from East Tennessee roots and watching the Big Orange win on Saturdays.
BTW, with your attitude and limited abilities to converse, no desire to ever meet you or engage in any type of discourse again. Good luck.
