Coach Dave Serrano put his gratitude to Tennessee baseball fans in writing this week.
Serrano wrote a letter to UT's fan base thanking them for their support in his first season as coach, a season that began better than expected but finished on a losing streak.
"On the field it was a year of ups and downs for us,'' Serrano wrote, "but we are confident that this season will serve as a solid foundation on which to build a highly successful program.''
The Vols won only two of their final 18 games and missed the SEC tournament for the fifth consecutive year.
"We are excited about the future of Tennessee baseball and can't thank you enough for your support and the energy you have brought back to this program,'' Serrano wrote.
"You showed championship effort this season and now it is our duty to catch up to you.
"My ultimate dream is the day when we can all celebrate the return of this program to its rightful spot among the nation's elite.''

Rod spoiled us. He is the winninest coach in school history and the 4th in SEC history. He made winning in baseball at UT look easy when they had never won before. But, just because he made it look easy does not mean it is easy. We will see that for years to come in several sports. Thanks to Hammy for putting his stamp of destruction on the AD.

Coach Serrano is a CLASS ACT! He will return the program to national prominence! His message to the players speaks volumes about his mindset. If you want to play for Tennessee, then you are expected to make that commitment to excellence, plain and simple! I really like the "new attitude" which has permeated the Hill!
Go Baseball Vols! Remembering Helton, Garner, etc. We will be back!

Rod's teams were a bit inconsistent at the end, but he was a great coach. Delmonico's firing was alot like Fulmer's IMO. Both had slipped a bit, but neither should have been fired if their replacements were the best we could do (Releigh and Kiffin). In all fairness, Kiffin is a really good coach. The mistake with him was the contract structure/buyout. Raleigh for Delmonico...PLEASE! Hamilton should have hired Serrano then.

Since KNS didn't show the entire letter, here's what was in my e-mail yesterday.....
Vol Fans,
With our first season at Rocky Top now complete, I wanted to thank each and every one of you for your support this year on behalf of everyone involved in the Tennessee baseball program.
Although the season might not have gone exactly as we had hoped, the past 12 months have only continued to solidify my belief that this is the best job in the world and Knoxville is my true home.
On the field it was a year of ups-and-downs for us, but we are confident that this season will serve as a solid foundation on which to build a highly successful program.
I would like to note that there are currently six former Vols playing in the big leagues, tying Ole Miss for the most of any SEC team and proving that the University of Tennessee has been, can be and will continue to be a training ground for future Major League players.
In the stands, your incredible support led us to a record-breaking year. Not only did we record the highest ticket revenue in program history, increasing 36 percent over last season, but we upped season ticket sales 25 percent and finished with the second-highest total and average attendance marks ever.
For you to show that level of commitment in our first year was both humbling and an honor.
Our home series against Florida was when I truly began to realize how incredible our fans are. Seeing over 9,500 of you come through the gates of Lindsey Nelson Stadium that weekend proved to me how much the Big Orange family is behind this program.
My coaching staff and I appreciate your patience and support more than words can allow.
I would also like to thank our administration for the support it has shown to this program in our first season.
We are excited about the future of Tennessee baseball and can’t thank you enough for your support and the energy you have brought back to this program. You showed championship effort this season and now it is our duty to catch up to you.
My ultimate dream is the day when we can all celebrate the return of this program to its rightful spot among the nation’s elite.
Go Vols!
