Marlins draft Drew Steckenrider in 8th round

Drew Steckenrider became the first player plucked off Tennessee’s baseball roster by the Major League draft, chosen Tuesday in the eighth round by Miami.

A junior from Lawrenceville, Ga., Steckenrider was selected as a right-handed pitcher by the Marlins with the 257th pick.

Steckenrider has until next month to decide whether he’ll sign with Miami or return to UT for his senior season.

He hit .221 for the Vols this season with a team-high six home runs. His future would appear to be on the mound.

The 6-foot-5 Steckenrider pitched 67 innings with a 3.36 ERA. He was 4-6 and recorded a team-high 79 strikeouts and held opposing batters to a .197 average.

Good Luck young man if you sign or stay. I think Dave has got it going in the right direction but if you can get the college money and make a few bucks go for it. That's why we go to college, to make more than if we did not.
