Tennessee's Jarnell Stokes scored 11 points and pulled down five rebounds to help USA Basketball's U18 national team to a 107-72 victory over Argentina in the semifinals of the FIBA Americas Championship on Tuesday.
The U.S. is 4-0 in the tournament, which is taking place in Sao Sebastiao do Paraiso, Brazil. Tuesday's win sets up a rematch in the Gold Medal game against Brazil, which the U.S. defeated 83-64 on Monday. Stokes scored a team-high 22 points on 11-of-14 shooting and pulled down eight rebounds in Monday's win. He compared Brazil's home-court advantage to that of a collegiate team's.
"It's like going to Kentucky and Rupp (Arena),'' Stokes said in a UT release. "I hadn't seen anything like that from a country standpoint and how they were cheering their guys on even though they were down 20. We felt like we were down.''
Brazil earned the rematch by defeating Canada, 66-62, on Tuesday.
The U.S. team has qualified for the 2013 FIBA U19 World Championship.

I wish we'd landed that Goodwin kid. He's an incoming freshman at Memphis. He's a scorer. 23-27 from the floor and 12-14 from the line. With him and Jarnell on the floor together -- scary.

Total team effort against pretty good Argentinian team. Seven in double figures.
Rematch against host Brazil for championship; this is where international ball has me worried. Hopefully, kids will decide outcome.

Stokes should just now be entering college. His upside is tremendous and anyone who says anything negative about this kid, who has a great work ethic to go with lots of natural talent, is a total idiot.
