Columbia pitcher Hayden Stone has switched his commitment to Vanderbilt from Tennessee.
“I kind of wanted to explore my options a little more, so I told Tennessee that,” said Stone, who committed to UT in January. “Then I got a meeting set up with Vanderbilt. We hadn’t spoken or anything before that, and everything went well. So it was the perfect fit for me and my family — couldn’t turn it down.”
Stone said he is looking forward to playing for Vanderbilt’s Derek Johnson, regarded as one of the nation’s top pitching coaches.

Cue up PH with all his glorious platitudes of vandy....shame a young man changed his mind, but better now than later....

What a horrible decision. Who would choose to be around the elitist psudo-intellectual rich kid snob Vanderbilt student body. Sickening lot of inbred people at that school.

Yeah, that Serrano dude can't coach pitching.

Oh Hayden! How could you? :o(
Call in the next guy, Coach! Nothing to see here.

lets face it. in the real world (where most of these athletes are going to end up once they've finished their eligibility, vandy, ohio state, and i hate to say it, bama, degrees carry more clout with employers) there's a price to be paid for ignoring the quality of the first word in u.t. sadly, that doesn't seem to matter to an increasingly large portion of vol fans.

This may be one of the silliest post I've seen...really...throwing bama and Ohio state in there...silly...
VolFanInTheBoro (Inactive) writes:
Then why didn't you go to Vanderbilt, Ohio State or Alabama instead of UT like you claim

More bad news. Tyler Smith the JUCO pitcher signed with the Rangers late this week for a $135,000 signing bonus. KNS must not be aware.
Pitching is gonna be the problem again next year.
The hole is deep. Real deep.

It is one kid making one decision.
I'll take Serrano, and the U of T.

....it takes a long time to rebuild the prestige of a shattered athletic department. I do not envy those who are trying to restore the good name of this once great program....but we do owe them a debt of gradatude....!

That's the dumbest post I've ever seen. I guess those degrees carry more clout if you aren't trying to get a job at the following companies that have UT grads as the CEO's, Presidents etc. Dominion Power, Pepsi Company, Pfizer, Garmin, McCormick, etc. Thus the endowmnet at UTK is huge.
UT Endowment = 848.3 Million.
Alabama Endowment = 631 Million.

ut's athletic department has never been viewed as "prestigious". Only in the eyes of the delusional fans looking through creamsicle glasses. The rest of us know the truth. Mediocre is more like it. Accept it. That's all you have.

Can't have too many good arms..welcome to the elite stature known as Vandy baseball. Had this local kid stayed at UT I would still have wished him well. And just so Ut fans know I have always loved Todd Helton as a hitter and I'm very happy to see R A Dickey have success with the knuckler. Good Luck and I will see ya on West End

Bama? Seriously? You can make an argument for a Vanderbilt degree opening more doors, but when you said a degree from Alabama is superior to a degree from Tennessee, you lost all credibility. Actually, I checked to see how employers ranked universities, and I was surprised to see that Alabama ranked as high as it did. Alabama ranked 450th by employers ranking the 700 top universities in the world. Cambridge ranked number one and the University of Tennessee 391.

Actually, I was very surprised that Alabama was even ranked among the top 700 colleges in the world, so I guess the school is not as bad as I thought. But I still hate everything about it.
