LOS ANGELES (AP) — Renaldo Woolridge, a son of former NBA player Orlando Woolridge, will play for Southern California next season.
The forward is set to graduate from Tennessee this summer with a degree in sociology, but was granted one more season of eligibility after being limited to eight games because of an ankle injury during his junior year.
Woolridge averaged 4.3 points and 3.3 rebounds playing in 25 games last season for the Volunteers. In three years at Tennessee, he started 20 of 93 games. The 6-foot-9, 215-pounder is from Sherman Oaks, Calif. His father played 13 years in the NBA, including with the Los Angeles Lakers.
USC coach Kevin O'Neill says Woolridge can play multiple positions and will make an impact in the one year that he's eligible.
The Trojans recently signed guard Brendyn Taylor from Los Angeles to a national letter of intent, joining earlier signees guard J.T. Terrell and Strahinja Gavrilovic of Serbia.

OK. I'll believe it when I see it. Maybe O'Neil can push some button no Vol coach could find.
Ironcity writes:
I think Orlando needs to be the main offensive threat for him to succeed. He is not a player who can give you 10 minutes a game. At USC the are razor thin. If he gets on the court I think he will do well. I don't think his game will translate into many more wins for USC. I think Woolridge like his dad is a player that can thrive on a bad team but be virtually useless on a good team. Nothing wrong here but he is a player that needs the ball in his hands and on good teams thats not necessarily what the coach will want. At USC if their offense is as inept as it was last year they need someone to shoot and O is the man.

He has been more into rapping than playing Basketball.Good that he will be wasting someones time other than Coach Martins.

He seems like a great young man...one which UT benefited from having enrolled.
Hope he learns that "Rap is phooey, and the ultimate utility of a rapper is in the crapper."

USC has Kevin O'Neill and Lane Kiffin as coaches.
Two former Vol coaches who ran away from here.

O'Neil knows how to get the most out of players unlike our so called coach. This kid is loaded with talent its a darn shame we aint gotta coach that knows how to coach...hurry up hart and replace this fool

K.O. is being fooled by the eye test -- just like every Vol fan and coach that ever laid eyes on Woolridge. But you can't pull the wool over this notsheep's eyes.
Sorry Swiperdude. It won't play in L.A. either.

Medical hardship waiver my A**. We don't have orthopedic surgeons and physical therapists at UT Hospital? Ankle injuries heal faster in California?
Once again, the NCAA proves that it is simply begging college athletes to game the system.
No, I am not criticizing Woolridge. If I were in his shoes, I would do the same thing.
The NCAA is a joke.

O'Neil sucks. And this is one of the dumbest posts I have ever read. Pearl couldnt get anything out of him either and I consider him a good coach. Renaldo might have alot of talent but who needs a six foot eight guy who just wants to shoot the three.

Are we in a vindictive state of mind this day?
I would advise letting go of the stone but since I've been unable to do so......permission to carry on granted.

He doesn't.

If he can bring it the way he did in the 1st half vs UK in Lexington, he'll be the toast of LA.

Different systems..different coaches ..different needs..have to agree with O'Neil..Woolridge has the potential to fill a scoring need for S Cal..hope he does it..this is no knock on UT ..just wishing the best for a player who helped UT to one of their best wins ever...

Would like to see it, but have been disappointed too many times by a player who could have been really really good if he had wanted it bad enough to focus. He didn't. Maybe if the ball don't work in L.A. he can get further with music out there. Good kid. But hurts to think what could have been.

This is a good kid some are bashing on here. Kinda sad if you ask me. Oh how I remember the Kansas game. Thanks for the memories Swiper. I doubt he goes out there and destroys the opposition. But it would be nice to see him have a solid 10-12 ppg type of season.

If only you could run away and join them.

He may be a nice kid, but he never even tried to live up to his potential. It's one thing to play hard and just not have the talent, but that was not the case with him - he never really put the work in and it showed. Does he have talent - yes! Did he coast on that talent - yes! Did he succeed on that talent - NO!

I really don't care. Southern Cal is not in the SEC and thank god not in Knoxville....it is not newsworthy. Kevin is history and let's let the Sun set in the west. Let's focus on positive things in Big Orange Country.....

RW gianed a scholarship by playing basketball. While in college he learned about business and life and got a degree. He never caused any trouble and, in fact, did a number of videos and songs that both UT and local shows have used for their programs. He is well spoken, hard working, and from all I know a good, well rounded kid. Because his game did not fit the style of the two coaches he played for and because he got the most from his time in school, including his diploma, I do not understand why people have to complain about his time here. He will be successful in his life because he understands what is important and he is willing to work for it. And I will always remember his play against Kansas. For that game alone I wish him the best.
Ironcity writes:
So you were at practice every day? You worked with the team in the summers? You have no idea what Woolridge did or didn't do. All you know is he likes to Rap and produce music and for that you think he didn't try. Your post is everything that is wrong with boards like this.
