Vanderbilt season ticket sales surpass 2011 total

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Vanderbilt has sold about 12,700 season tickets for the coming football season, surpassing last year's total.

The 2011 figure was 12,489. The Commodores finished 6-7 last season including a loss to Cincinnati in the Liberty Bowl.

This fall's home schedule is South Carolina, Florida, Auburn, Tennessee, Presbyterian and Massachusetts.

Athletic officials said they expect season ticket sales to pick up as the season approaches.

So they are only going to win one, maybe two, homegames? Is this news?

They will probably be on Tennessee's schedule next season so they can charge me $50 apiece for tickets I throw in the trash can.

I bought a couple of Vanderbilt season tickets this year since they play the Vols at home and have two additional good home games and one (Auburn, on day of UT-Bama game) that I won't attend but can sell.

Comparison:
2 Vandy tickets in end zone: $260
4 Tenn tickets in end zone: $2250

I too like Franklin. Brings a lot of grit and excitement to the VU program. In some ways, he and Bruce Pearl were cut from the same mold.

When a program has won 6 games once and 7 games once in the last 30 years, and averaged 3.5 wins per season, anything looks like an improvement. Will it still look like an improvement when they only win 4 games in 2012?

The Vols and Coach Dooley will put a whipping on the commoddoors this year.

Looks like you must have been out on an all nighter and drinking heavy.I have been hearing about Vandy turning the corner many years but they just keep losing more than they win.I made a bet with a friend in 1982 after Vandy won that that Vandy would not win again against Tennessee for the next 10 years and he had a good laugh and thought I had lost my mind.He said Vandy was on the rise and was only going to get better and would rule the Vols.Well not only did I win that bet, Vandy didn`t win against the Vols for over 20 years.Franklin learned quick how to be a true Vandy man. After the Tennessee and Vandy game he was saying wait till next year.I have been hearing that all my life after they play.Franklin got bent out of joint about Coach Dooleys post game comments. What Coach Dooley said was just a fact.So wait till next year and the next and the next.

Vanderbilt has no business in the SEC. They need to go to Conference USA or the SunBelt. The other SEC schools have carried them for decades. Vandy sits around waiting for their handout each spring while contributing nothing! Other SEC schools sell 60-70,000 season tickets yearly and Vandy is bragging because they topped 12,000! Well yippie for the Commode Doors!

Why don't you quit just sayin' and go to the Georgia website where someone might care what you are just sayin'. Tennessee is down. Everyone knows that. What the guy was saying is that Vanderbilt has been down for 50 years now. Tennessee has been down for 4. Big difference.

I wouldn't mind it if the Vols had a 2011-2012 men's basketball tourney title in hand along with a recent trip to the College World Series.

seeing as how Peabody's season ticket sales are driven by the visiting SEC teams the more apt comparison would be the 2010 season when they had UT, UF, LSU and SC at home (3 travel WELL and one less than midrange). Not 2011 when they had UGA, UM, UK and Arky (one travels sort of well with 2 midrange). At mid August, 2010 Peabody had sold 15,042 season tickets (with an interim coach).

Interesting. You have commented on every article on GVX since you registered your current username, regardless of the subject of the article, about how "Dooleave" can't coach, and his losing overall record is your reasoning. Franklin has a losing record, and that won't change, yet you think he's a great coach.

The reality is, you're a total knob.

Why can't you trolls and haters at least get your facts straight? Dooley beat Vandy by 14 in 2010 and by 6 in 2011. When has he celebrated a 4-point win over them? Not to mention they were 2-win team in 2010 and a 6-win team in 2011.

Vandy is the "University of Tennessee" now. UT is way behind in the big three mens sports. Vandy went to a Bowl, the NCAA Tourney and the World Series with a Final Four team. UT sat home for all three events. Vandy won 80 games last year in the three while UT won a putrid 56. Vandy and Florida were the only schools in the SEC to go to all three big post season games, while UT and Ole Miss were the only two to sit home for all three. Vandy has won a Bowl in the last 5 years, and also had a Top 4 team. UT's last Top Four team was with Fulmer in 1998. Yes Vandy keeps the State winning with class, while little brother losses to Austin Peay in two sports in the same year. Vandy had the best sports programs in the state last year. Yesterdays are long gone in Knoxville, Vandy is the new Big Boy in the state of Tennessee.

Vanderbilt's rise? Vanderbilt rose as far as they will last season, and that's it.

Wrong again, of course. Bruce pearl had a #1 ranking. UT has played in more bowl games since 2000 than Vandy has in their entire history. UT has gone to the NCAA tourney 6 times in the last 7 years (more than Vandy). Saying Vandy went to a bowl game and had a top 4 team in the same sentence implies the top 4 was in football, which is one of the most ridiculous things anybody could ever say. In baseball, UT leads the overall series, and they've split the last 10 games 5-5.

Vandy is and will always be the little sister. One year doesn't make a trend.

Yes Vanderbilt really is awe inspiring. They were 6-7 last year. If they lost to Tennessee team that's as bad as you say, shouldn't that have told you Commodore fans you have no business in a bowl game? You even lost to a team the Vols beat. No wonder your mascot is an outdated computer.

You're going to lose this battle I'm sorry to say. It would be great to see 2 or 3 days of articles with no response to the trolls and watching them go crazy posting trying to get someone to respond. Alas, everyone thinks that they have a gotcha comment to put them in their place. Even if you give them facts you won't win. They don't want to discuss...just incite and we continually throw gas on the fire. Oh well...

Colliervol writes:

Surely you jest. There aren't 12,700 Vandy fans in Nashville. I figure half of those are UT fans who just want to guarantee themselves good seats when UT comes to town.

To put it in perspective, there are high schools in Texas that sell more football season tickets than that.

Dooley, as most everybody else in this world, knew last year was probably one of Vandy's best opportunities to beat us. It was the perfect situation for them..., and they still couldn't do it. The "internet" locker room celebration was appropriate and fitting.

Go Vols!

Last night at Lindsay Nelson, the Vols took down the commonwhores 8-2. The Vols' overall record is better than Vandy's.

A lot of unfounded bragging going on there, eh professionally handicapped?
