Lady Vols stay alive, face Miami (Ohio)

Tennessee advanced to Saturday night's NCAA softball regional elimination game by run-ruling UAB, 8-0, Saturday afternoon at Lee Stadium.

The fifth-ranked Lady Vols (47-11) play Miami (Ohio) at 6:30 p.m. with the winner advancing to play Virginia Tech (42-19) at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday.

Tennessee will need to win tonight and twice Sunday to advance to the Super Regionals.

Virginia Tech defeated the RedHawks, 6-0, in Saturday's first game in the double-elimination regional.

The Lady Vols scored four runs in the top of the fifth against the Blazers, batting through the order.

Junior pitcher Ivy Renfroe shut down UAB (37-22) in the fifth to seal the victory and end the Blazers' season.

Renfroe, who retired 19 in a row after giving up a run in the first inning of Friday's 1-0 loss to the RedHawks, came on in relief of sister Ellen Renfroe with two outs and the bases loaded in the second inning on Saturday.

Ivy Renfroe retired all 10 batters she faced.

UT senior Shelby Burchell led the Lady Vols with a 3-for-3 hitting performance.

Shelby should be the 5th hitter in the lineup. I don't know why Ralph changes things up all the time. Davin was tearing it up batting 6th and then got moved to 5th were she has been uneffective because she's not used to it. You are suppose to figure out all 20 players role in the regular season and not mess with things in post season. The old saying "If it aint broke, don't fix it" needs to be put up in Ralph's office somewhere.

Wow, just run ruled Miami too, outscored 2 quality opponents 16 to 0 today, now they gotta get even with VT for last year, go get 'em ladies.

It was Okie State not Va Tech who eliminated us last year. VT no where near as good of a team as them. We should win both tomorrow if we play with same fire we did today. Ralph has to use the speed game. He wouldn't try to steal in key situations in that Ohio loss. Ralph has to come through tomorrow as do the girls.

Although the KNS staff decided to call it a night before the Lady Vols played the RedHawks again, it's good to see that the Lady Vols pulled it off in convincing manner.
And I still love Ivy Renfroe.
