Tennessee announced Thursday that redshirt junior defensive back Izauea Lanier will not be eligible to participate in the 2012 season.
No reason was given in a release by UT.
Coach Derek Dooley also announced that 12 incoming players have enrolled for the first summer session of classes.
The 12 players who enrolled:
Deion Bonner
Drae Bowles
George Bullock
Kenny Bynum
Jason Croom
Daniel Gray
Alton Howard

Meanwhile, Davante Bourque, Cordarrelle Patterson, and Quenshaun Watson are expected to enroll in the second summer session.
A native of Gordo, Ala., Lanier played in all 12 games for Tennessee last season, starting nine. He ranked sixth on the team with 48 tackles last season and also recorded four passes defensed.

News flash: If you flunk out of school you can't play on the football team (except at the U. of Alabama).

Hey FearlessFreep. You think he'll be back for 2013?

Perhaps the dumbest comment I have ever read on this board, and that is saying something.
SIMSVOL writes:
typical post by a troll who thinks one specific coach is responsible for everything every player does off the field. Not so loser. The players have to learn to be accountable as well. Lanier will learn a tough lesson and return a better player and person next season.

I give you a 0 out of 10 for troll effort. You will be ineligible for further troll postings this season.

Hey idiot go check out the graduation rates at UA these days...Beating your brains out on the field and in the classroom as well. FACT
MetroplexMojo writes:
It's called personal responsibility. If a player does not go to class and does not put in the effort, it is HIS fault. By your logic, Coach Fulmer was to blame for Leonard Little and Stallworth killing people since he was the one who "molded" them?

More worried that C Patterson and Bourque are not there now and learning the offense. Tennessee does not need Clearinghouse issues with these two.

Its plain and simple. Dooley knows when players go to class and when they dont. Dooley also knows which players are struggling in the class room. It is his responsibility to make sure the kid passes whatever basket weaving classes he is taking. Dooley is responsible for managing every aspect of the football team. Pat Summit graduated every player throughout her entire career. Was that just luck on Pat's part? Did she never have a player on her team that had issues in the classroom or did she manage the situation properly?

And how many players do the basketball coaches have to keep track of compared to the football coach?

First, I don't recognize your name and didn't take the time to look at your comments (my bad for that). When you were called a troll, I figured the person who said it, knew.
That being the case (and if it's true), thanks for not running and hiding like most trolls do when they make a snide comment.
MUCH respect, props, kudos (insert other words here) to one of the greatest coaches of all time; Coach Summit, and what she did with the students she recruited to play college basketball.
The jury is still out on Coach Dooley on a LOT of topics. ie., coaching, recruiting, developing etc....
He is dealing with roughly 90ish players compared to a dozen or so.
NO WAY he can control EVERYTHING THEY DO.
This players reason for being off the team for the next year was the result of something that should have been addressed YEARS AGO BY HIS SUPPORT GROUP...
Just my humble opinion and I am no expert.

Of course basketball teams have a lot less players but the support staff of a football team is also 10 X that of a basketball team if not more. Do I expect Dooley to look at every report that comes across his desk? No! Would it be unreasonable to expect Dooley to get the grade information from a Grad Assistant and say maybe I need to meet with this player because the grades are not where they should be. Again Dooley is the captain of the ship and what happens when the ship sinks? The captain is responsible. Dooley has not shown he can manage players on and off the field. Give me one example of Dooley properly handling a player personel issue?
Ironcity writes:
As a troll I would give your effort a D. You and Lanier now have something in common.
Ironcity writes:
On the plus side this he is one of the few players we can afford to lose. We have about 4 DB's equally talented as Lanier and at least a little bit smarter.

Weeding out the undesirables. Let's give Dooley a raise and extend the contract! Trolls go home.

MetroplexMojo writes:
This is the downside of recruiting jucos. Sometimes they pay off, or get paid off if they go to Auburn. Many times they revert to the activity, such as not going to class, that caused them to go to juco in the first place.

"Dooley didn't blah blah blah...He should be fired blah blah blah...just the tip of the iceberg blah blah blah...." Now I just know he is shaking in his boots at all the smack you folk throw his way. Wait til the fall comes and see what the Vols have, don't have, what is projected. This is only one for now and if it is an iceberg, it will likely melt before June has seen three days.
VolinCalif writes:
As long as they allow 1.5 GPA players to play football , there isn't any wonder that they have a high grad rate.

Mike Wilbon of ESPN recently said, "Too many African-American young men see college as an obstacle to their eventual success". Until the NBA started bankrolling the WNBA how many female athletes do you think were biding their time until they became rich as a pro athlete?
BYW the only reason I mentioned African-American was because the player named is African-American.

The best reason not to fire Dooley is to make each day of your stinking life more miserable than the one before. You are so jealous of CDD and all he has accomplished Jeff...and that is why your profess to despise him. You waddled along in life in Richmond's shadow. Dooley made his own way and now is UT HEAD COACH and I hope he is until the day you are on the other side of the sod. LOSER. GO VOLS!! GO DOOLEY!!

Dooley should have been fired immediately after the UK game.
Needs 9 wins (unlikely) to keep his job.

your a loser, the question is what did Lanier do? You obviously don't have kids because if you did you would know that you can only offer advice after they become grown men or women, what they decide to do with that advice and guidance is up to the individual to whom it is given, it's called personal responsibility. Losers like you always want to blame other people for your short comings, instead of laying blame where it truly belongs, and in this case it's all on Lanier.
gomer writes:
Whats funny is the way the national media views this loser, someone tell me what it means when the same media praise our players and talent but yet pick us to be a 6-6 type team? It's called having a bad coach.... Athlons sports has us projected to finish 6th in the east, Lindy's has us projected to finish 5th in the east, espn blogger Ivan Maisel predicts Dooley to be fired mid season, and Sporting news has Dooley as the 14th ranked coach in the sec and 99th nationally. Ticket sales are down, we had to let people in the spring game for free and still only had about a 3rd of the attendance that teams like Ohio State and Alabama had and they paid to get in, 7 coaches left suddenly, it seems to me that for the exception of some dreamers in Knoxville most rational thinking people know Dooley can't coach and know that as long as he is here we will be in the cellar regardless of who our QB is...

Born, these clowns have mental problems. I know Ohio state fans, Notre Dame fans, Bama fans etc.. I know people who are different fans of different teams in all sports and I don't know anybody who would support a guy like Dooley with his track record. The thing these people don't get is yea he walked into a mess and it would have been hard to be a contender but geez a good coach would have at least competed and and upset a team or two. We have gotten worse since this clown has been here. I just don't get the love affair some of these so called fans have with the guy.

Now, now, you know good and well based on the world university rankings I posted a month or so ago that the Univ. of Alabama is about 300 slots behind the Univ. of Tennessee. Just as a 'B' grade means something different between Vandy and UT, the same is true between UT and Bama.
