6-3 post Kendall Cooper not headed to Lady Vols

Post prospect Kendall Cooper announced Thursday that she will be attending Duke.

A source familiar with her recruitment said that Cooper informed Tennessee on Wednesday night that she was headed elsewhere, but she didn’t say where at the time. The 6-foot-3 post from St. Anthony High in Long Beach, Calif., visited Duke, Tennessee, UCLA, Texas A&M and Arizona State.

Cooper is ranked No. 12 in the Class of 2013 by ESPN HoopGurlz.

Bummer.... Good luck to you anyway.

Not surprised by this. With Russell committing it was going to be tough to sign another elite post player. This signing class is a top 3 class and the future for the Lady Volunteers seems to bright. If Tennessee gets the guard out of Arkansas (Tyler Scaife) that will be icing on the cake. If not, time to move on to the 2014 class because there are elite players also in that class.

Would have been a nice pick up, but I can't blame her for wanting more playing time.

Go Lady Vols!

She wouldn't have seen the court that much and she knew it.

For sure Jatarie White from The Charlotte area. She's already been to Knoxville but the playing time may also be a problem. For now she's the top rated Post player. If you're a sure fire star you may not want to sit on the bench while MR plays most of the time.

We really do need another post, don't we? Do we have any committments besides Tucker, Russell and Reynolds? I may have missed one.

Depth, we don't want to forget depth. Good game savvy posts that know how to play defense are hard to find. If you have great posts coming off the bench that can ignite scoring runs while also applying their defensive skills, then the BANNERS will fly. Depth at post might be the secret to championships. WE SHOULD NEVER TAKE THE "SOUR GRAPES" ATTITDE WHEN IT COMES TO QUALITY ATHLETES. We could use her, and she should know that. We posters should know that. I am sorry she is not coming to Tennessee...I bid her well through moist eyes.

Nothing like quality journalism here at the KNS...publishing rumors and hearsay.

We don't have any more comittments but we have Izzy Harrison, Baashara Graves, Cierra Burdic and Nia Moore. Oh and Jasmine Jones, who'll play a lot of Lady Vols Basketball in Championship games. But you are correct, one more post/forward would be a boon.

Who will step up and be the 3pt specialist this year? We need a player out there that will be automatic. Not sure we have that person yet.

I agree.

Just so she doesn't go to Duke or A&M. Hopefully she stays on the coast.

Hate to be the bearer of bad tidings but it's Duke.

Volinflan writes:

And don't forget. Nobody has signed any papers until the 14th. Like Pat always said, don't county on anybody until the papers are faxed in. Look for some changes between the sighing and the committing. Wonder how unusual that is?

I'm sort of surprised that Cooper choose Duke. Williams is only a Soph and is locked in at center for 3 more years. Of course she has had a nagging injury, sort of like Cain and Brewer.

They will probably play Cooper at Center and Williams at power forward giving them a solid inside game. We can counter with Russell and Graves so gonna be some good games in WCBB in the future.
