Knox County Mayor Tim Burchett has discovered the trouble with tweets — once they're out there, they're out there.
On Friday night, Burchett, a veteran user of the Internet social network Twitter, had a few things to say about the University of Tennessee football program.
The mayor was writing about his nephew Charlie High, a senior who plays quarterback on the Christian Academy of Knoxville football team and is a college prospect, when he typed: "I need to get him some tats and a criminal record so UT will be interested."
And, then hit the "tweet" button to send.
Burchett took the tweet down immediately, but not before a number of people re-tweeted it.
"I pulled it down pretty quickly," Burchett said when contacted Saturday. "I was just being funny but everyone went ballistic. I didn't think anyone read that stupid thing. It was probably up for about five minutes."

Stupid is as stupid does. And his nephew wouldn't be helped by either. He still wouldn't make it in D1

This has got to be one of Knoxville's most embarrassing moments. One would guess that this will put a nail in his political coffin.

We all have lapses in judgement at times when emotion takes over. Trying to cover up only makes things worse. It's best to stick to it out when we let that side of our thoughts come out for all to see.
I'd still vote for the man.

Obviously he is not all-Vol. Most of us would never say something like this about our team.
