NASHVILLE - By Scott Ramsey’s math, the 15th annual Franklin American Mortgage Music City Bowl has one SEC option right now — Vanderbilt.

The next two weekends will dictate whether he will have any other teams to select from for the Dec. 31 game at LP Field.

The Commodores (6-4, 4-3 SEC) became the eighth SEC team to earn bowl eligibility with their sixth win last week at Ole Miss. Vanderbilt hosts Tennessee (4-6, 0-6), which can still make a bowl by winning out, at 7 p.m. Saturday on ESPN2.

Ramsey, president/CEO of the Music City Bowl and Nashville Sports Council, knows the six SEC teams holding positions four through nine in the BCS standings are beyond his grasp given the bowl pecking order. Two are expected to go to BCS games, followed by the Capital One, Cotton, Outback and Chick-fil-A Bowls.

Music City Bowl would be Awesome. Fans could drive to the game ,Tennessee could play a non SEC team where they would have a chance it would be great. Vols rule...... 6 and 6 is pretty good really it's better thsn the last few years so fans should be happy. Tennessee is NOT Ga,Fla,S.C. Missouri,Miss State,Ala LSU or Texas A&M. They are more Kentucky than they are those other teams.

Not good for the city of Nashville if Vanderbilt plays in a hometown bowl. Lots of empty hotel rooms and bars.

My prediction...VOLS win out and get selected over Vandy and once again take over Nashville on New Years. I would love some revenge on UNC from the 2010 Music City Bowl which in my opinion was the most entertaining bowl game of the year even though the VOLS fell short.

Go VOLS - put a pounding on Vandy this weekend and all their coaches with "hot" wives.

So yeah these same players are here, some were highly touted players, but yet they are getting exposed for who they truly are; a bunch of SOFT,SLOW,players who aren't very smart or agressive on the field.

Take Wagner and Gordon, both are decent players, but Gordon will sometimes come up and make a stop while Prentiss tends to shy away from tackling a power back.

These guys are nothing like LSU,Bama,or Texas A&M Cornerbacks, same goes for our safties, it seems that Brent Brewer is the only one with some guts out there but can't stay in the game long enough to really get going.

Brent was a beast when Janzen was back there with him,and they would have been a force today!

Dooley isn't the problem on Defense, it's the Players!! Yes Dooley has make some questionable calls but hasn't Les Miles, Dan Mullen, and other head coaches. Coaches are only as confident in his players as they can execute, and if they don't he won't put the game in their hands!

I truly hope you guys can see through your Instant win Microwave mentality and realize that NO a new homerun hire will not have Instant success here at UT.

It will take time, and I hope you give them the 4 years not 2 or 3 to turn this team around! Ohh and yeah if Dooley leaves so will the Big 3. He's become like a father to them, and if dad goes then so does sons, so look to be starting all over, and yeah like Auburn learned, Pheonoms don't grow on trees, so don't expect another CP,you see we have yet to find another Eric Berry!

In short until we can have some stability at head coach kids will not want to come here.

Dude...that's brutal. We are down, yes...but not out. Let's leave the hyperbole behind. Miss State, SC, Missouri, and AM have ALWAYS been cellar dwellers with few years as exceptions. KY/Vandy, puleaze! Georgia has had some good teams, but TN has the 21 - 19 - 2 record against them.

So take you pot shots while you can, but you are showing your ignorance or arrogance or both in your post.

KnoxNewzPravda has been so busy drooling over the possibility of Dooley being fired that they practically quit covering the actual news around the football team's preparation for Vandy.

Keys to victory:
1) Leave Sal in Knoxville. With CDD focusing on defense and leaving the offense alone, both looked really good for about 30 minutes. Just do that for 60 minutes and it's all gravy.

2) RUN THE !&^%#%$! BALL. The best defense is a good offense for UT. Use the 2 back set, run the ball early and often. Set up the third and short rather than third and long. Keep our offense on the field, keep the chains moving, keep the clock rolling, and score.

3) Get CP the ball. My son has noticed a trend; if Young fields the punt, then the first play is going to CP. Wonder if opposing teams have figured this out too? Let CP field the kicks and provide opportunities for "explosives." Don't make it obvious that CP is getting the ball.

I agree!! On #2-3 We need to use CP as well as Neal,Lane, and Young back there, but we need to switch it up some, maybe run some reverses where CP gets it and some where Young and or Pig Howard gets it! Teams don't need to know CP is gonna get the ball.

Also I feel that we aren't creating oppertunities for Young to get into open field and use his speed. Simply running him up the middle throughout the game isn't working because he isn't a large tackle breaker.

He needs to get more wheel routs and pitches than Lane and Neal.

As for #1 we need to send more Blitz backages from the outside, instead of sending a slower big LB like Smith we need to send Sapp or even Brewer from the QB's blind side, and do this throughout the game until they catch on.

GO VOLS!!!

The silence is the move,,but its time to focus on the game and so-called rivalry, which take 2 parties. So, I'm copying my post from another column,,,
We will beat Vandy. Some things never change. Our worst is better than their first. I don't care if its James Franklin or Jame Buchanan or Franklin Pierce doing the coaching. There has been a lot distracting these boards this week, and the hatred of the bile and dung colored peabody teachers college has been placed on the back burner. George Cafego is rolling over in his used van in his grave right now. Joe Thompson is out there somewhere with disbelief that the Vol Nation is ranting more about the coaching situation than the fact that Peabody U is favored in this game. We will beat them. They suck. Decades and decades of failure cannot be overcome. There is an immovable object of losing combined with an irressistable force of futility. Its like skunk stench and there are no tubs available to take a tomato juice bath. That odor will simply not go away.

I think I have to agree with you...Music City Bowl in year 1, ehhh, I can live with with the coaching change, but 2 games left and 2 games short of getting the lowest tier bowl? Not really feeling like it is an accomplishment. "Going to a bowl" LONG ago moved from being a real achievement to being a minimum expectation for the low tier schools. There are more teams bowling than not, so how could getting to the lowest rung bowl be anything but a travesty to a team like TN.

Actually, there is one bowl below Music City that we still have the scent for. It is the Saniflush Toilet Bowl played in Turdstown, Ohio.

With wins over the mighty commodes (now that's where they should play) and the polecats we might just back in to that one.

And wouldn't that be a great ending to a butt ugly year?

We would need to try and get the local team, Akron, to somehow be our opponent to try and guarantee a win though, and with their 1-10 record, that will be as hard as Sal's stool when he's constipated after another 50+ pt 700+ yard defensive gem.
