Sean Karl of Brentwood High School has signed to play tennis at Tennessee.
Karl is battling Ewing's sarcoma, a form of bone and soft tissue cancer.
"Sean has character,'' UT coach Sam Winterbotham said in a school release. "We know he's someone who can handle adversity and come out on top.
"When he gets through this, he'll join the Tennessee program.''
Markus Kerner from Tallinn, Estonia, will also join the Vols in August. He has won three matches on the ITF Futures Circuit.
"For somebody at 17 to already have won three ATP points, that's impressive in itself,'' Winterbotham said.
"The college system is perfect for Markus. He has a big game and needs time to develop and that will happen here at Tennessee.''
Women's Tennis: Brittany Lindl of Panama City, Fla., has signed with UT's tennis program.
She's ranked No. 20 in the nation by Tennisrecruiting.net.
"Brittany is a great fit for our program,'' said co-head coach Mike Patrick.
Lindl chose UT over Virginia, Yale and Purdue.
Men's Golf:Jack Smith of Webb School and a top Mexican junior have signed golf scholarships with Tennessee.
Smith finished third in the Division II-A state tournament and won on the International Junior Golf Tour the past two years.
Juan Carlos Serrano Guevara from Mexico City is considered the top-ranked junior golfer in Mexico.
"These players possess the skills and, most importantly, the work ethic to drive our program forward,'' UT coach Jim Kelson said in a school release.
Women's Golf: Lucia Polo has signed to join the Lady Vols next fall.
An exchange student from Guatemala, Polo trains at Precision Golf School in Greensboro, N.C. She won the 2012 Carolinas Junior title.
Coach Judi Pavon described Polo as a "very accomplished player.''
