It's pretty obvious the Vols don't know what to do in Sunseri's 3-4 defense. If winning games are as important as teaching the defense a new system, can they not use the 4-3 in important games and practice using the 3-4 when playing Ga St. like teams? Petrino and Saban didn't have such a slow learning curve when they took over Ark and Bama respectively. Are our guys just a lot slower than the Arkansans and Bamians?

I think one reason our players are having a tough time learning it is that they are afraid to invest too much into coaching. What I mean by that is that they have seen so much turnover in coaching they are not confident that Sunseri is even going to be here next year. We need to make sure we hire coaches that will stick it out for the long haul. These kids have seen and been instructed by a lot of different coaches over the past 4 seasons. It takes its toll over time and the players. It does not help matters that even before the season starts we already have fans calling for another coaching change and with each loss more fans start to jump on the bandwagon to replace coaches.

I am not a dooley fan in anyway. I am though a Tennessee fan and will support which ever coach is there. Now if Saban walks up to Hall and says Hey I want to interview for the head coaching job at Tennessee then I say go for it. Dont see that happening any time in the near future. People want Dooley gone, but do they have a person in mind that is available and has a winning record in the SEC?

I think Dooley was dealt a bad hand to start with and the deck has been shuffled a few too many times. I saw a lot of good things in the Georgia game that makes me think that we may finally be on the right track.

OK they will teach and practice two different defenses......no need for confusion right? Patience is a virtue even when it is hard as we want instant results as we go through the drive-thru of life. Rome wasn't built in a day...Eiffel Tower not built in a day....Verge Khalif not built in a day...Neyland Stadium not built in a day...getting a trend here? Cupboards were not bare at Arky or bammer....see my post on Wiedmer's article so I won't do as some and cut n paste.....

The fact is we are being held hostage by TV money.I refused to go to the Akron game last week because of the late start. We live 150 miles away and I am 70 years old. It just makes for a long day and longer night.
If the Bama game is a 9:00 p.m. start, those tickets will be for sale unless my wife revolts.

I do not know if that was because of 3-4 D or not. But it was not because of lack of talent.

CDD has two years of recruits, plugged holes with JCos, two coaching staffs, new AD, program that was in CAOS. I do not know if CDD is the man for the future. I do not know if he is SEC caliber. I do not know if he will ever win a big time SEC game. BUT, I DO know that trying to compare his situation with Saban's situation at AL is RIDICULOUS.

Arkansas' offense explosiveness more than covered for the defense's lack of stoutness in Petrino's first couple of years.

He also had Ryann Mallett transfer from Michigan when Rich Rodriguez wanted mobile qb for his offense. So Coach who left Falcons with no whimper wasn't destitute of players that could play SEC ball...

If VOLS win November, CDD will return as HC. And I personally think he would deserve one more try if he does. Again, I do not know if he is the man, but he took on what no one else was willing to. And for that alone he deserves his chance.
In the mean time, I will support the VOLS, even if it does kill me. I aged 4-5 years Saturday.

I agree. He's gotta go 1-3 in Oct (perferably 2-2). He REALLY needs to beat somebody that he shouldn't. And he needs to win 'em all in Nov to realistically keep his job. Just my thoughts.

Have to wonder how things might have turned out if Fulmer had hired that OC from Michigan (was it Loeffler?) and gotten Mallett in the deal, instead of Clawson. Maybe the same, maybe not.
