They've looked pretty good in some games, and they're unbeaten. On the other hand, the Vols would be 5-0 against the weak@ss schedule MSU has played so far, so it's hard to tell.

MSU's opponents are 8-16. The only one with a winning record so far is Troy, who are 3-2 in their high school division. Our opponents are 15-14, and include a beatdown of a 4-2 team that just beat the #3 team in the country. The BCS teams MSU has played are a combined 2-9. The BCS teams we've played are a combined 14-3, and include two current top-10 teams.

Despite this, UT's rushing offense only trails MSU's by 1.6 yards/game and .29 yards/carry, and UT's passing offense out-gains the Dogs by more than 100 yards per game. We out-score them by 5.2 points/game too.

MSU hasn't done anything to really impress me yet. I mean, I was impressed with the way they man-handled Auburn, until everybody else man-handled Auburn too.

Is this a rhetorical question?

Watched some of the KY game and the Kittens have tons of injuries..May end up as worst KY team in history..They played 2 fresh. QB's; Towles came in and took them 80 yards for a TD but got hurt on a sack early. The MSU QB is quite good..Pretty accurate and doesn't throw INT's. He will hurt you if not pressured and Iam sure Mullen has seen enough film to know where to hit our soft DB's

I do. It keeps me on the fence until the first loss in the final four games. The State game plus the final four in the win column will keep most of us happy four another year. Seven and five shows us it's status quo and Dooley must go.

Come on this is Mississippi State, we should never measure our program against one of the have not's of the SEC. A win is expected, hopefully Dooley understands that.

Fellow vol fans, strange things are going on in the SEC, don't be surprised by anything. Who would have thought S.C. could beat Ga. like they did. Wish we could have gotten Steve Spurrier years ago. In light of his arrogance at times, he is still one of the great minds in college football.

Fl. beating LSU opens up another can of worms. Don't be surprised if some one slams a slam dunk on Al. before the season is over. It seems to me that anyone can be beaten on certain Saturdays and the lower echelon teams like us can surprise some of these teams. I distinctly remember over the years some of the power houses that we have had only to be embarassed by a lower tiered team that we were supposed to beat easily. Remember the games are not over till the fat lady sings and before the season ends, look for her to sing for the big orange on a few games in which we are highly favored to loose.

Games can go different directions, depending on how motivated and coached up, so don't be surprised when it happens. We have some great athletes, whether the negative trolls beleive it or not. Get the right angles and tackle properly and remember the belt buckle area never moves. Watch the belt buckle area and you won't be faked out of your jock, as it don't move like the feet. Offense follow through on proper assignments and look out. I have tremendous faith in this team that has has to patch up a rag tail team left over by the great one, still drawing the big bucks. One thing he is great at is politicing the right people for the big bucks. Coach Dooley will bring us back to the great teams of the past, just be patient and it will come.

Starkville is a hornets nest with cow bells. They smell blood. They are looking at history being 6-0. Late game and that is the same as Arkansas last year. They are already sky high down there. If Tenn does not get blown out it will be an upset. Losing for the Vols is inevitable.

notorange writes:

There are only 3 power teams ive seen this year. from 4 to 20 is up for grabs so as of now i'd say yes MS is a top twenty team..subject to change at any time..lol

Ayres_Hall writes:

No. They've played nobody. Auburn is their biggest win and Auburn is horrible.

But I'm glad they are ranked. After we win, Tyler Bray will have more victories over a Top 20 team than Aaron Murray.

we will find out what kind of team we have in 6 days. Are they going to come out and play with blood in their eyes or with their tails tucked in. What is our character? Some people hate to lose and some people shrug it off by saying it was only a game, it is how you play the game that counts.

This is a rhetorical and unnecessary question; the only question that matters is whether or not we can beat Mississipi state and claim a quality win.

If we lose and I pray we don't but if we do, the wheels are going to come off, at least as far as the fans go. SC and Bama are tough and it will make for a long October.

Mama_Also_Calls_Me_Precious writes:

I fully expect this to be a win. Dooley has recruited much better talent than Miss St has, but if this comes down to wire and coaching comes into play, well you would have to give the edge to Mullen. If Miss St wins expect the Dooley lovers to jump off the bandwagon. With that said, can Miss St really stop Chaney's offense??

well I'm surprised you think Mullen is a better coach. Nope Miss St can't stop Chaney's offense.IMHO

I think Miss State may be the most over rated team in Division I football at 18th/19th depending on which poll you look at. They are 5-0 but look at the teams they have played so far. Jackson State, Auburn, Troy, South Alabama and Kentucky. Normally Auburn would be a decent win but this year they are 1-4 and the win was against Louisiana Monroe who took them to overtime. Kentucky's only win is against Kent State. Kentucky has already lost to two teams from their own state. I like the Vols' chances this week.

TitanBlueGoVols writes:

Maybe not but it dosent matter they are in the Top 25 and the Vols arent. This to me is the biggest game of Derek Dooleys Tennessee coaching Career game.If he loses and goes on to lose to Bama and South Carolina which he will. He will not be coaching here next year. All of you fans that think a written contract is a blood oath are retards. We gave Fulmer and extension the year we fired him.Thats why we had to pay him.Dooley could have a 20year contract and we could still fire him.We would have to pay him out but we could still fire him. This game is Dooleys chance for a "Signature Win".MState is in the top 25 and undefeated.Dosent matter if they should be but they are and if we lose and get smacked by Bama and the Gamecocks hes Gone.NoQuestion.No Excuses I am so sick of all the Dooley scapegosts and crutch excuses some fans give him. He did what he could but he will never get enough talent to be on top so if we are gonna be rebuilding and suck for 2-3 more seasons anyways I say lets give someone else a try.Jon Gruden and his wife recently just bought property outside of Seveiorville where she is from. Her parents live there he started his coaching career here. She was a cheerleader here and met at Tennessee while he was here. His brother is an Offensive Coridinator with the Bengals.I know he told us No but he was also still the coach of the Bucs at the time and hadnt been fired yet. Just sayin if I was in charge and Gruden gave me a hint he wanted the job Dooleys contract wouldnt mean S#!t and he would be cleaning his office out by 8am.

This is absolutely correct. Miss State would have lost to at least Florida. If UT had Miss States Schedule, then we would be 5-0 right now.
