A Tyler Bray interception set up Bama for T.J. Yeldon's 1-yard touchdown to make it 13-3. Then the Tide went 72 yards in four plays, the TD on a 1-yard toss from AJ McCarron to Michael Williams.
Down 20-3, Tennessee struck back with A.J. Johnson's 2-yard touchdown run to narrow it to 20-10.
The Tide tacked on a 34-yard Jeremy Shelley field goal.
Alabama struck first.
The Vols forced one three-and-out, but then a long punt return gave the Tide field position at the UT 47. McCarron passed 23 yards to wide-open Amari Cooper for the touchdown.
Tennessee mounted an 11-play drive but had to settle for Michael Palardy's 32-yard field goal.
