Having completed his final official recruiting visit to Auburn last weekend, Memphis Briarcrest Christian School senior Austin Nichols has no immediate plans to announce his college decision, according to his father, Mark Nichols.
Despite what you may have heard.
As fans of Tennessee, Memphis, Vanderbilt, Duke, Virginia and Auburn wait with bated breath for a decision, Mark Nichols told the News Sentinel on Tuesday that false information and rumors have led to "a feeding frenzy" surrounding his son.
"It causes a lot of grief and whiplash with everybody," he said.
Asked if there was any update on a timeline for a decision, Mark Nichols, quickly responded, "Nothing."
"We haven't even met as a family."
Mark Nichols then recounted a story of a friend in Knoxville calling him Tuesday saying a local radio station was reporting Austin planned to announce his college choice Friday and would ultimately pick the Vols.
"Well all that was new news to me," he said. "Thing about it is, I'm not saying he's not going to Tennessee, I don't know what he's going to do, but these people all need to take to chill pill. When he commits, he commits."
Austin Nichols is a 6-foot-9 power forward ranked as the No. 26 prospect in the Class of 2013 by 247Sports. He officially visited Tennessee two weekends ago.
As previously reported, he plans to make his announcement in early November.
"I don't know when we're going to announce," Mark Nichols said. "I'm out of town a lot so we've got to get together as a family and everything. We'll get it figured out soon here, hopefully."
