RB Marlin Lane 'absolutely' on track for return to Vols, Butch Jones says

Lane was suspended for final 5 practices of spring

Tennessee running back Marlin Lane remains “suspended from all team activities,” coach Butch Jones said Wednesday, but he seemed optimistic that Lane would return.

Jones said Lane had “criteria” he needed to fulfill before he would be allowed to return, but that the junior from Daytona Beach, Fla., was “absolutely on the path” to meeting those criteria.

Jones spoke to reporters Wednesday on the SEC spring teleconference.

Lane, who rushed for 658 yards last year, missed the final five practices of the spring, including last Saturday’s Orange & White Game.

In his absence, backup running back Alden Hill rushed for more than 100 yards in the spring game.

“(Hill) quietly kept getting better bringing consistency every day,” Jones said on the conference call.

On league-wide issues, Jones said he had no opinion about the possibility of adding a ninth game to the SEC schedule.

“There are arguments for both,” he said. “I’ve been so consumed with our football program that I really haven’t thought much about it.”

I hope that by "absolutely on path to meeting the criteria" that he means Marlin is getting his act together and not that the program is trying to dodge a bullet. I want Marlin back also, I just hope it is on the right terms. If Marlin does make it back and Hill continues to progress, we may have a decent backfield given the O-line we are bringing back this year.

Go VOLS!

Hill is gonna take a lot of the carries next season but would be nice to have three guys on the depth chart all capable of big games.

Got my classes mixed up, Hurd is still a year away. Wishful thinking. Go Jabo!

Sounds like Lane is growing up this year similar to Corey Miller last spring.

I know the article is about Lane, but the part I like the best is when CBJ says he's been so consumed with our football program that he hasn't given much thought to stuff like the possibility of adding a 9th conference game. He's too busy being the coach and putting together a top-5 class for next year to worry about phooey like that. Go Coach!

the offensive line should be the best in the country, nevermind what we saw from the orange and white game (the defense had a coming out party on vanilla offensive playcalling. no worries...). go vols!

yeah, i saw that too! exciting, isn't it? it seems like he wouldn't mind it (or, i wouldn't mind it), but, yes, being busy with his own team, cleaning his own house, is a refreshing thought. and encouraging! go vols!

oh but it DOES matter. if it were just grades, then he can get help, tutoring, whatever, and make better grades. but if he were planting poison on the trees of rival campuses, then that'd be a big problem.

And BTW, how about the incredible job of recruiting Butch Jones is doing? I know he hasn't coached a game yet, but he's selling a program that has been difficult to sell recently.

Hold everything..........what's going on, a clone of Wilted Flowers ( One % intelligence ) just joins April 22, comes on here puffing himself up, tries ( in vain ) to run down one of, if not the most enjoyable people on this site, ( Witch Dr. ) and immediately sounds like a carbon copy of the no. 1 whiner on the site.

How does this happen? 2 ( two ) identical trolls, 1 % intelligence and 0 intelligence, Wilted Flowers. Obviously, the staff is asleep at the wheel to let this sort in through the back door.

Best guess is one or both of the twins will be hx very, very soon. Want a clue? The old, and new obsession with Dooley. The rest of us have moved on............yet these two ( or one in the same ) carry on their vigil with the past.

Could it be that other cities have this problem with their newspaper websites? Trolls galore.

Aside from these 2 clowns, we'll let people in the know handle the Marlin Lane situation.

The Vols now have a coach that at this point is doing a great job but the true test will be on the field. I don't know or care if you are actually Jeff Flowers but I'll believe Peyton Manning, Al Wilson, Eric Berry, Arian Foster, Todd Kelly, Haskel Stanback, Joey Kent and many other former players that are supporting CBJ before I would believe a bench warming Vol Hater like you.
