Vols run through practice on Aug. 6

Barring a major surprise, junior Justin Worley will start Tennessee’s season-opener against Austin Peay.

But don’t discount the possibility of a major surprise.

On a Vols team aching for a fresh start, why not consider starting a true freshman at quarterback? Considering the options — and expectations — newcomers Joshua Dobbs and Riley Ferguson are intriguing possibilities.

First-year coach Butch Jones has the freedom to take chances. After all the coaching upheaval of the past five years, he gets a pass this season. While winning games is always important, his record in 2013 will not determine his long-term viability as UT coach.

Tell us some news. Why would Climer, of all people, even think about writing an article on UT Football. He comes along commenting on the QB shuffle as if we have been stranded on the North Pole for about a year. I usually don't read Climer's stuff. I read it this time for self defense reasons...now, well, I wish I had skipped over it. Why do we UT fans have to put up with jokers like Adams and Climer...they wave negativity like a checkered flag at the end of a race.

If all QB's are equal, why not start a Freshman? Got a feeling Worley will start, but Dobbs or Ferguson will end up with the reigns.

Good call..The take charge QB in the huddle will win the job but if he's smart Jones could throw Riley or Dobbs in the game to add a run threat and shake up opposing defenses. Miss State did it to us 2 or 3 times last year in the middle of a drive with their dual threat QB. If I remember correctly it took that kid about 2 or 3 plays to put up 7 on us.

Really, there's only about a handful of trolls who come here regularly. However, they think it's cool to change their names and spew the same garbage every day. Sorry to say, but the trolls have gotten boring. They used to bring some originality to the board, but now it's just repeating the same thing over, and over, and over, and over again. I can only imagine how bad things are at home for them if they're spending so much time in a Vol forum repeating the same ignorance all the time.

Their like trolls. Do not respond and they go away.

For old media, until we quit "hitting" their sites and buying their rags, they will keep doing this garbage "news". NOTHING else will change them, but when we leave and move on, at least we'll be changed.

I'm close to weaning off KNS' controlled media. You know, as seen in "JA the Great; journalist" by Mike Strange, his own staffer! Old habits are hard to break, and old media still breaths due to that.

i trust butch jones to choose the right choice, but if it were worley, i would hope he would be much better than what i've seen of him. Whenever he came in last year he never seemed comfortable in the pocket. He always seemed jittery and awkward. I would want to see him improve like crompton did after kiffin got coached him. I say just start Dobbs. He has a great arm, he can run if needed, and he's probably the smartest guy on the team. He would be a great guy to build a team around. And this would be the best year to start Dobbs given how talented the O-line is this year. He wouldn't have to face much pressure.

That's not a Dawggie, Summitt... it's Jeffy Flowers' latest name change. The only references he ever makes to the Dawggies is throwing in Herschel Walker's name now and again It's all his "latest savior coach", "another spate of 5-7 seasons" etc etc etc You know, "Anybody who roots for UT football is bound for hell because they fired my beloved St. Phil."

Jeffy's biggest problem (other than being a miserable excuse of a human being, that is) is that he's spewed this anti-UT bile so often, he's got nothing left in his gut to vomit. Anybody that is on this board could write his comments for him, because he's so repetitive.

Good news, Vol fans: Jeffy has just improved our record, without the team ever taking the field.

He's gone from predicting us to have a 4-8 season to now predicting another 5-7 season.

You're losing it, Jeffy. You can't even remember your own crapola for more than an hour. That's how meaningless your life is!

It must be painfully obvious to you that Vols don't "care" about Dawgs. Three straight beatdowns, and a fourth one coming this year, make that pretty clear.

Who hasn't looked at the series record. FYI and in case you haven't been paying attention: By the time Butchie Boy tanks out, in three years, the Dawgs will own it, never to look back. Just like your series with the Gaturs, Auburn, and Bama. It's not 1939 anymore and you're now the Minnesota of the SEC. Once pretty good, but now just a faded glory and a big empty stadium.

And last year? Now, all you can do is brag about another loss!

Keep dreaming Bullwinkle; the Dirty DAWGS are irrelevant and haven't done CR@P since 1980. If you think UGAY will win even 2 of the next three, you are as delusional and moronic as the Bammer TURDS.

You must be a pitiful little troll; nothing better to do than run your mouth on a Vol site. Are UGAY MUTTS not intelligent enough to have a site for the flea-ridden MUTT Nation?

Once again, someone on this site disparages Climer when he writes an article. I'm not sure if David went to UT, though I used to play basketball with him some at the downtown Nashville YMCA...this I do know: no, he never was refused admission to Vanderbilt...I'm thinking he would have mentioned this. Note: not everything written about UT football needs to be spun in a "Pollyanna" light. UT has a tough road to travel. They are a proud institution with a rich history. I don't care if they are branded for your momma, dog, or they are some beach trip mistake, they have become trite and makes one look like a knucklehead to a large sector of fans or viewing audience. The "Anti-Vol" strikes again. Climer is one of the most poorly disguised Tennessee haters in this business. His appearances on the drive time sports talk radio show here in Middle Tennessee are proof positive. You can hear the "giddy" in the voices of George Plaster(Vandy grad), Willy Daunic (Vandy grad) and Climer (possibly Univ. of Mars grad?), whenever Tennessee's troubles or Vandy's recent success is discussed. And Tennessee vs. Vandy?, don't even get me started.

It'll be nice to have the QB as an occasional runner. Bray did not give us that option. he had troubles with anything out of pocket. Much less running. He also had troubles to the left it seemed. It took some good moves and catches by Patterson to get anything on that side. Patterson was good size. I'm not knockin' Bray really I just like having the run as an option.
