Tennessee will open the 2014 football season at Neyland Stadium against Utah State on Aug. 30.

Utah State announced the news in a press release on Friday. UT did not immediately confirm the schedule, as the school plans to announce the entire slate in concert with the SEC.

UT and Utah State had previously been scheduled to meet on Nov. 8, 2014, but schedules have been in flux amid league expansion in the SEC and elsewhere.

"We are pleased with the opportunity to move the Tennessee game to the first week of the 2014 season," Utah State AD Scott Barnes said in the release. "It simply works better in every aspect of our schedule. I appreciate working with Tennessee Athletic Director Dave Hart to get this done."

The Aggies, members of the Mountain West conference, have never played UT in football. Utah State is 1-16 all-time against current SEC members, beating only Kentucky. However, the Aggies nearly stunned Auburn in 2011 before squandering a late lead in the final seconds.

Are you a Gator, or a Tide fan? Obviously not a Vol. What happened, did they kick you off your home college site?

Glad to see you on here Coach Dooley. I hate to break the news to you, but you were fired ... so we won't be going 5-7 anymore.

Everyone can laugh all they want at Utah State, but according to the Sagarin ratings, they were ranked higher than every Big 10 team that was bowl eligble last year.

Possibly. Followed by double digit wins in 2015. Dooley, Kiffin, and Hamilton destroyed the program. It's gonna take time. Just don't be showing up once we get good again, bandwagon.

Yes. I'm sure it will be the first of 3 or 4 I will skip. I have started attending Georgia Tech games at Grant Field on days when Tennessee is playing these garbage games. Since you're in ATL, I recommend it highly to you.

When the Chattanooga Moccasins announced that UT asked them to move the game scheduled to kickoff 2014 to an October date, I was curious who the Vols would bring in. I see that Utah State won 11 games last year, including the Potato Bowl, lost to Wisconsin by 2 and BYU by 3. So it's not the sort of opponent I hoped, but I guess it could be worse.

Speaking of schedules, when can we expect a Tennessee basketball schedule to be published? Last year by this time, the SEC had already issued one attempt that had to be amended.

And while in East Tennessee, Utah State plays Maryville College in the consolation game the following week at Honaker Field in Maryville. They will spend the week wearing white shirts and ties, and knocking on every front door in town handing out collateral.

Good again? In three years you'll be on your next new savior; crying that Jones just wasn't a good fit; pleading youth and inexperience; preaching patience and mired in the same run of 5-7s. Learn to live with reality and look on the bright side; at least you'll have your choice of seats.

...correction. Bates has 2 sacks, a pick, and a forced fumble.

Just for the record.

GBO!

You have a very short memory. As bad as we've been, historically bad actually, we're only 6 years removed from winning the East. It won't be long until we're back.

I don't know why people think "well UT sucks now, so therefore they will always suck". History disagrees, my friend. Look at the recruiting rankings real fast.

Vols,

Pay no attention ( that's what he wants ) to a mangy bandwagon troll calling himself Dawgday.

This bandwagon mutt better be concerned with the Clemson Tigers, already a favorite over the mutts.

But alas............that's what trolls do, hanging out here. They are so consumed with the Vols that it is a sickness.

Utah state is a pretty good opening day game. The team plays four teams from other conferences every year and this will be a good test.No need to play a bunch of top ten teams outside of conference when you already play six to seven top twenty five teams in conference. There is going to be one top twenty five team scheduled next year, much like Oregon this year. This will be the warm up game.If you don't want to go see the game then give your tickets to a real fan.Go Vols!!
