I really like the traditional orange and white.
BUT... If we were going to do something different, I like the grey more than I would have liked black. Several polo style shirts sold at the bookstore are a light grey with the orange power T and look nice. I hope we only see the grey once a year at most. Also, I hope we don't play awful in them and look like fools the way GA did with their funky uniforms one game.
I know the young players want new looks but more than that , they want to win. That is proven by the fact that AL hasn't changed their very traditional uniforms and still do fine with recruiting.
I would think our awesome facilities, and academic support center would outweigh uniforms. But hey, I guess recruits can have it all.
Let's just win some games and wear orange and white for all but one game!

I suppose since my college colors were blue and gold then gray sorta fits.

VFL_Troll_Patrol writes:

I don't understand why everyone is so worked up about this. It's just an alternate uniform and will only be used once or twice out of the year. I say use them in October against South Carolina, just like the Black Out Halloween Uniforms! Which I thought were cool and was ok for one time use! First off, SMOKEY gray is one of the official colors and I have seen UT apparel with the gray color. I own some myself. I don't see this being that big of an issue and I like it. Just think about what Butch said. He will not try to break from tradition and he's not. In fact the other traditional Orange & White Uni's are great as well. Butch said "out of the 10 questions recruits ask, the uniform is in the top 3" GBO!

I take it you are probably around 60 years old or older?....I am not trying to offend you, but it does seem to be the older generation that does not approve of any uniform changes.... I personally think it is great and I'm sure many of the younger players, recruits and would-be prospects do as well!!! I say way to go Gig Orange!!! I love it!!!

The official school Colors are ORANGE, WHITE, and SMOKEY GRAY. But who is counting.

I like the design of them but its driving me crazy that they don't look gray, they look blue. That's really the only problem I have with them is that particular color of gray. It's too metallic and just looks blue to me. No one else seems to see it so I feel like I'm taking crazy pills lol. Maybe all those years of making fun and messing with my buddy who is color blind finally caught up to me, and I am now color blind as well. At the end of the day though, I'm not playing in them, I didn't design them, and I ain't paying for them so if the recruits and players like them(which they seem to love them) then I'm fine with it. I love tradition and all but I also love the idea of creating your own tradition so alternate unis here and there aren't as big of a deal as people want to make it. You won't be shedding blood and sweat on them like our Orange Soldiers will for us so deal with it. It is a new era for our team and I will support my squad to the fullest. Go Vols!

webrewer#635574 writes:

I don't like them. I thought the school colors were orange and white so that is the colors that should be used.

The_Memphis_View writes:

These unis give UT a distinct "Mid-major" feel. I never thought that I'd live to see the day that the Vols resort to anything other than WINNING to gain attention.

On a related note, the Memphis Tigers will also be debuting new unis this fall. Must by a Tennessee thang?!

BIVOLAR_BEARE writes:

Not my favorite, but it's much better than the all orange uniform. I'll wait to see how well they play in them before making any judgment. GBO!!

BustaRhymes writes:

To the designer: "Fat, dumb and color blind is no way to go through life son...." If we have to use an alternate uniform - just use the black ones we used a few seasons ago when we played USC on Halloween...

I'm 39 and listen to hip hop all day long and I still think this a dumb move! Our colors are orange and white. We wore grey way back when because film and early TVs shot only in black and white. Therefor one team had to wear a dark jersey while the other had to wear a light color so fans could follow. We've already got a top 5 recruiting class without this nonsense. Whatever game they wear them, I will not watch and I'm a graduate and a 12 year donor.

Wrong! There is no official color Smokey. That's all bovine scat that was spun by Jones and Hart today and was recently added by the UT Office of Communications for dumbed down fans. These things are an abomination!

Well. I'm in my 60's, am disgusted with hip-hop and tattoos, but had crazy long hair, wore an earring and played Led Zep and the Stones at 200+ db's....back in the day. For those of you youngsters knocking older folks; like it or not, you're going to grow old, too. But not everybody grows up.....'just dependent upon your surviving long enough. Also, back when all tv was black and white and there were only three (and I remember two) channels on the air, not enough games were televised for uniform colors to matter. However, gray WAS used a lot by the Vols. Uhhhhh. Did I take my pills? Where's my dad gum cane, Ma? GBO!

I am old and a traditionalist but I LOVE it! The orange really pops off the grey.

I do wish the grey was one shade lighter and I wish they would have put a checkerboard stripe down the legs, but regardless I think they are smokin hot! I like the "Vols" text on the jerseys and gloves as well. I'll be picking me up one of these jerseys when I am in K-town for the opener.

Does anyone remember a company called Kodak? Kodak was a company that held on to its tradition too, and was scared to change. IBM used to be the powerhouse of the technology field and in the 80s and 90s was too slow to keep up with the latest trends in the market. I believe this is the situation here. Keep Up with the market, I love It. Go Butch Jones and Go Vols.

Team wearing orange or gray has more history and tradition than 2 of three teams you named. Vols 799 wins, Dogs 760 wins and your 25 years of tradition Gators bringing up the rear 680 wins. Thanks for playing. I wouldn't bet on 9 with misschimp at the helm.

sameolvolalum writes:

I really don't care what other SEC schools do with their uniforms. Eventually they'll all make changes, so what's the big deal about "tradition" unless, of course, you're the fiddler on the roof? 'last time I looked at the poll, most folks like the new uni.....as do I. The deal's been signed with Adidas.....ink's dry.....they'll look great vs. the Ducks. GBO!

Did you say CHANGE? That's an Obama term that is a scourge on this nation. I don't mean to offend you but being a part of the younger generation I would say you voted for what history will judge the WORST president EVER to bow before a muslim king who abuses women.

Wait, what???? Didn't Florida go to throw back helmets a few years ago? I kinda remember seeing them with nothing but the F on the helmet for a few games.

Too much bluish color in the gray. It almost looks like a powder blue instead of gray. agree with a earlier post, helmet needs to be color coordinated with the uniform.

illinoisvolfan writes:

The Orange and White looks pretty good on my Gray tees and hoodies. What the heck...if the Vols win wearing those unis, the negative reaction will fade. If they lose wearing them, this latest fashion statement will go the way of the orange Nikes of Coach Majors in the mid-1980s.

DutchOrangeVolsOrange writes:

I do not mind tweaking the Home and road unis. Leave the white helmet with the Orange power T alone. As one who has been all over the world, when People see that white helmet with the orange T, they say: That's Tennessee. I was in Germany once at some bar that somehow got the Tennessee-Auburn game back in 1992, there were People in that bar that did not know a football from a basketball, but they knew that was Tennessee on the screen because of that white helmet. Gray Jersey looks pretty good!

Don't guess you saw the post that listed how many different uniforms the teams you named have worn. Hint: it is WAY more than one for each. But then facts never did mean much to you anyway. Your troll motto is: "Say anything, no matter how stupid, if you think it will make the Vols look bad."

johnlg00 writes:

No, just that they want to look good WHILE winning, and they are under no obligation to bow to what WE think looks good. And I really don't know what to make of those who say they won't support CBJ and the Vols if THEY don't like the unis. Isn't that at least as superficial as kids preferring their own styles?
