Tennessee officially confirmed Memphis transfer Antonio Barton has enrolled at UT and will pursue a post-graduate degree in 2013-14.
Barton is 6-foot-2 point guard who projects to start in the Vols’ backcourt next season.
In a Wednesday press release, UT said Barton has completed a degree in Sport and Leisure Management at Memphis and will pursue a post-graduate degree in Sports Psychology classes at Tennessee.
“We’re excited to have Antonio on board,” UT coach Cuonzo Martin said in the release. “He’s a very talented young man. He makes shots, he can make plays at the rim and he can really facilitate the offense. I like the way he defends. I’m ecstatic to welcome him to the program.”
Barton started 31 of 95 games in three years at Memphis, averaging 6.9 points in 21.4 minutes per game.
“I’m excited to be a Vol,” Barton said. “I look at this situation as a fresh start for me. I think I can bring a lot of experience, leadership and toughness to the table, and I look forward to building a brotherhood with my new teammates.”
