Tennessee linebacker A.J. Johnson and offensive lineman Antonio "Tiny" Richardson were named to the All-SEC preseason first team by the league's coaches on Thursday.

Three other Vols -- offensive linemen Ja’Wuan James and Zach Fulton and defensive lineman Daniel McCullers -- were named to the second team. Kicker Michael Palardy and offensive lineman James Stone were named to the third team.

Only three SEC teams -- Alabama, Georgia and LSU -- placed more players on the All-SEC teams than Tennessee.

Alabama led the league with five players on the first team, five on the second and four on the fourth.

Kentucky was in last place, with only two players on the third team.

So the reigning heisman winner is second team All SEC and the guy that beat him out is not Alabama's QB? I'm as sick of his antics as everyone else but he was the only QB to beat Bama last year and he did it at their stadium?

Exactly. There's just not much depth. Yet.

Well he is kind of handling the three main kicking duties now for Tennessee. id rather have him than Matt Darr anyways.

He made 3rd team as a Punter. He did not make it as a kicker. Which is fair, because he did do a good job punting last year for us. The kid's got a leg, it just seems to me it's the mental hurdles he has to overcome now. The kicker is a strange breed. It's easy to let things get to you if you start missing kicks. The greats are the ones who can overcome that, and take every kick as if it's a clean slate every time.

You're probably right, especially about the Oregon game, but we don't really know for sure until the game is played, right? Frankly, I would be thrilled with 7-5 this year and a very good top 10 recruiting class. I wouldn't jump off of a bridge if we went 6-6 and showed a lot of improvement in effort and discipline.

You're still a slimy troll, by the way.

Shows that the team has talent but didn't have a coach for the last couple of years. Wanna know what difference a coach can make look at the Saints last year, the looked lost just like UT...Which is also why i'm not as high or Oregon as everyone else...gotta wait and see.

He didn't beat Bama. It's a team sport. There is no doubt, really, that Murray is more deserving. He has delivered for three years. He's already UGA's every-record holder, and he'll be the SEC's all-time leading passer about 3 games into the season. He'll finish the season with about 3,000 more yards than the next guy in line for that honor.

Just because Manziel won the Heisman doesn't make him the best quarterback. It just means a bunch of reporters voted him the best all-around player. I also think him being a freshman weighed into that a lot, because they wanted to do something nobody had ever done - award the Heisman to a freshman.

He is in the top 4 returning kickers/punters in most categories, and he's probably the only one doing all three duties.

Maybe. Florida is always going to be tough in the swamp. Oregon doesn't play defense. We'll see.

My thoughts exactly. This kid couldn't kick if his life (or a game) depended on it. Let's hope that we don't have any games that close. GO BIG ORANGE! ONE MORE WEEK!!!!!

mocsandvolsfan writes:

I'm NOT really taking up for Palady. He's definitely not what we'd hoped so far. But who knows he may prove everybody wrong. Besides there are more players on a kicking team than the kicker. I personally haven't analyzed that and probably few on here have.

Maybe the kicking team will be better and Palardy will gain confidence.

Confidence doesn't come by reading posts though.hehe

EastTnVols962 writes:

For crying out loud people, take the time and actually LOOK at selections. What the writer failed to acknowledge is that Palardy in NO way made this list at the position of PK. He is the 3rd team punter. They separate the two catagories on the list. So since he did pretty decent in the punt game last season, he made the list. It also fails to mention that 3 different punters tied for 2nd team honors. So technically, he would be number 5 on the list.

While you make some good points, Manziel beat Bama at Bama and Murray botched the SEC championship game when the pressure was on. Manziel completed 77% of his passes against Bama and Murray 54%. Manziel rushed for 94 yards also. It may be a team sport, but Manziel won the Heisman in large part to what he did against Bama. Murray has some great career stats but what has he won? Either way it just struck me as odd like the coaches were over-thinking it or letting their disdain towards Manziel botch their opinion.
