Butler did it to Tennessee’s volleyball team Saturday on the final day of the Cincinnati Invitational.
The Bulldogs (3-0) swept the Lady Vols 25-22, 25-21, 25-18, winning with the help of a Knoxville-area player. Butler senior setter Morgan Peterson, who played at Seymour High School, had 24 assists and 11 digs and made the all-tournament team.
“What I told the team before the match started was this match is going to come down to two things, how we well dig and how many errors we make,” UT coach Rob Patrick said in a school release. “We did a great job in the digging category, led by Ellen Mullins again, but we just made a few unforced errors that caused us to lose some close matches. A lot of that has to do with the youth of the team. They’re still getting comfortable playing Division I volleyball.”
Mullins and freshman Ashley Mariani earned all-tournament honors for Tennessee (2-1).
