Before Martin was a college coach, a professional basketball player and a decorated college guard at Purdue, he played prep ball at Lincoln High School in East St. Louis, Ill., where he starred alongside another NBA talent, LaPhonso Ellis. Both were all-state selections who led Lincoln to two Illinois Class AA state championships. They will enter the hall of fame together.
“This is a tremendous honor,” Martin said in a release. “As a kid, all I wanted to do was play for East St. Louis Lincoln in hopes of playing for a state championship someday. A lot of credit goes to my high school coach, Benny Lewis, and his staff, along with all my teammates for helping to put me in a position to be successful.”
Martin, 42, will be inducted during an April 26 ceremony at Illinois State University in Normal, Ill.
