On the eve of National Signing Day, Tennessee remains a strong contender for a number of prospects — some uncommitted, some committed to other schools — who have yet to announce their final college decisions.

Here’s a look at where things stand with the Vols’ remaining targets as the countdown to signing day reaches its final hours.

Come on, man, you know these rankings and player evaluations don't mean a whole lot. You never know how these kids will end up. It's entertainment. It's there for the football fan to look at during the offseason.

He has had about a week less than Stoops. You know, the coach of the team that just got 2- 4 stars from USC and Florida. That's to go with the 5 other 4 stars we already got. Ranked 27th nationally already with a few more to go. Be happy with your 10th place ranking in SEC. Probably as good as it will get for awhile. I say its great, to be, in the BBN. Top mens and womens BBall program, baseball program... And we have money in the bank. We don't have to borrow from the school to pay disgraced coaches. Guess we didn't pay the BBall team enough to win the title...

Why they mean less than you imply:

The r-square for that model is roughly .20 -- meaning that 80% of the variation in final ranking is not explained by the model. The number gets a bit smaller if you include the final not ranked teams.

Just because preseason rankings stink doesn't make recruiting rankings more predictive.

what is KY, 1-62 or 1-63 against Tn and Fla? get back to us on that.

Scoon writes:

Now is unprecedented times within WildCat Country as AD Mitch Barnhart has vowed put our $$ where his big mouth is, assuring all of BBN that Kentucky IS going to be competitive, and right up there with ALL the rest of the SEC teams in ft. Ya know, UK has typically never really been that far off, consecutively, within point spreads when it's came to 'W's or 'L's with other SEC teams, when looking at our past conference records. We've, for the most part, been able to pretty closely hold our own, and have caused most teams to nearly always have to play us closely, right down to the wire, more times than not, in recent years. So, with our $$ backing this fb program, our new coach, and an AD who has vowed to bring his own name back up out of the lowly muck (among other things) here in KY....I think that the Cats have really gotten onto something and it is going to be big. And, UT, along with everyone else within the SEC, is going to really have to guard their own loins, as you will surely have your own jerseys full now, when trying to hang that what was once considered by many, the expected automatic 'L' upon the Cats

Speaking of the future Ultimate, can't change the past. But looking at the future of the two programs....Maybe UT should look to go to the Big East. UK mens tennis ranked #7, Womens Basketball #8, Baseball Pre-season Top 10. Football team is the talk of the recruiting wires right now with a possible Top 20 class. Our flagship program a little down right now but climbing. Its all about the future. Butch Jones?? Right

No Sir, bragging about an athletic program that is clicking on all cylinders as compared to one that is flaming out in all areas.

The same athletic program that managed ONE victory in 27 years against Tennessee in football. You can brag all you want about preseason and recruiting rankings, but the fact remains that nobody has seen the product on the field yet.

We are in the same situation with Butch Jones in that we havent seen his product on the field yet, but the difference is that at least we have some history for him, and it is not just the fans but most football analysts that have praised him and expect good things for UT.

So let me put it another way...our future looks a lot brighter than yours. Stick to basketball, and MAYBE you will have a better chance in the future (even that I wouldnt count on once we get Maymon back next year).

And if you have any guts at all, you will come back at the end of the season and go over this discussion again...and THEN we can see who was right. And if you are wrong, which I expect you will be, at least be man..er..boy enough to come back and take it in the chin.

Oh! This is so funny I had to respond. I normally don't re-post troll garbage but, puleeeeeeeze! Scoon. So the Vols need to "guard" their loins? Don't they throw flags for hitting someone there? And what's with all those commas? I don't think UK would appreciate an illiterate miscreant such as you touting an education from there. Bless your heart. You and your jarhead butt-buddy need to get a room...and lay off the bong.

Having faith in one's football team is respectable. Having hope for better times is admirable. Being delusional derives pity.

No win is SEC conference play is automatic. In any sport. But why, other than being endowed with one (or maybe all) of the emotional attributes above, do you think your 'Cheating Cats can win in SEC football?

I mean, really, really, do you have any conviction ......

Well, I've had a real howler here over this one, sameol. That was supposed to have been 'gird' your loins, meaning one is preparing for war by strapping on his armor...Lol!!...and, I'm still laughing here about it and hard!! Heeheehee!! P.S. And, I'll also do better there next time with the commas, too, as I juss got carried away in the thrill of the moment...heheehehe!!

That's right about the 'no win' is automatic, but I think a few of you fellow vols in arms on here have passionately disagreed about that within the recent past, so go sing to them 'bout it, not me. Now, as far as the what makes me think?...I don't think Homer, I know! We've got new beginnings and an embarrassed AD who has put our $$ where his mouth is. Along side a coach who can recruit and I mean really recruit, we got so far....five incoming 4* players, and maybe an additional one tomorrow. Times are changing in WildCat country and this is something that you shall soon learn. Now, I'm not saying we're going to be a BCSer, but it does host the possibility and it can't get any worse or stay just as bad as what it was. This is just a partial list here, but I'm sleepy so I'm going to 'attempt' to get some shuteye as long as my nightly caller doesn't come a rappin'.

Have to agree with you (now, that is difficult) about when one is a bottom feeder and at the lowest point of the well looking up, everything is brighter. We both have new coaches and hope. The only thing assured is Vandy will choke and drown in their attempt at respectability.

I too would shut my eyes at the thought of being disturbed by rapping' during the night. But the NCAA will announce their inquiries during the day.

Oh yeah, if its in an article on Sports Illustrated its got to be right! Gimme a break!

Anybody who recruits top 25 or so talent can win big. Sure, ability is important but there is a huge amount of ability out there. Its developing what you have that seperates the big winners from the also-rans.

When I see a high school kid on national TV saying "i'm taking my talents to...next year", I want to throw up!

God bless 'em all and good luck to them but its more about development than raw talent. If not, USC would have won about 10 of the past 20 national titles.

When they had the coaching and the talent, they were there every year. Since they have had just the talent, not so much...

UT has had decent classes for 4 years now. They can compete. And they will have to do that first, before the national bandwagon starts playing Rocky Top again.
