The Tennessee men's golf team got its first team victory of the 2012-13 season on Tuesday, rallying on the back nine of the final round to secure the SeaBest Invitational championship in Ponte Vedra, Fla.
The Vols finished The Players Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass with a 15-over-par 879 after a third-round 300. UT held off Texas A&M (883) and Coastal Carolina (898).
"We are proud of our guys. They gave us exactly what we were looking for," UT coach Jim Kelson said in a UT release.
Rick Lamb won the individual championship by six strokes, shooting a 5-under 211 (70-65-76). The senior led after every round, sometimes by as many as eight strokes.
"It helped that I played so well yesterday," Lamb said. "I never looked at the scoreboard. I knew I was playing well, but I didn't want to know the standings."
It was the second consecutive individual tournament victory for Lamb, won the Gifford Collegiate in San Martin, Calif., in Tennessee's last match of the fall season.
Jay Vandenter (74-69-79) tied for sixth at 222. Oliver Goss (77-71-78) and Dunne (79-74-73) tied for 16th, while Rodgers (83-75-73) tied for 34th at 231.
Track and Field: After winning his third meet of the season and tying a long-standing UT indoor record, Jake Blankenship was named SEC co-Men's Freshman of the Week.
Blankenship was first in the championship pole vault with a mark of 18 feet, 0½ inch at the Armory Collegiate Invitational in New York City.
