Tennessee coach Butch Jones will serve as the grand marshal of the Food City 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway on March 17, the track announced today.
"I'm thankful to Food City and Bristol Motor Speedway for allowing me the opportunity to be a part of the Food City 500, one of Tennessee's marquee sporting events,” Jones said in a release. “This is one of the most exciting and unique races on the NASCAR circuit, and I'm looking forward to being a part of what is annually one of the best days of the Sprint Cup Series.”
The race starts at 1 p.m. on March 17 after qualifying on March 15 and Jeff Foxworthy’s Grit Chips 300 on Saturday.

Cool! The more exposure the better. Keep working hard coach. GO VOLS!

Why does he need exposure on a racetrack....more fitting on the football field
usafvol writes:
Ever think that maybe, just maybe some race fans may also be football fans?

And what publicity did Dooley drum up for TN? I like what CBJ is doing. Get our brand out there.

Could it be a sign a football game will be played there? Like against VT or WV?
kdaff51 writes:
Why would Tn give up home game revenue to play in Bristol. More money to be made at home. Not very smart economically!

Always one.

OK... Johnny... You're any idiot, but moving on. I like this, more than even for Tenn exposure and recruiting and getting our name out there etc... Since he has gotten here CBJ has gone out of his way to embrace not just the UT name and football program, but also the culture of East Tenn. Racing is an big sports arena in East Tenn as well. I still can't say whether or not CBJ is gonna win BIG at Tenn. I think will win but delivering a powerhouse to us is still up in the air. What I can say about the man though is he clearly WANTS to be here. That is a refreshing feeling after Kiffin and Dooley. Records aside, I'm ready for a coach that WANTS to be here and CBJ is getting out there and embracing us beyond the campus boundaries.

I work this race every year, and have been to the fall race almost every year since I was about 6. I just graduated with my accounting degree, have never been hunting, nor have I ever dipped tobacco. I don't use double negatives, but I will use the word "y'all" occasionally. To those of you less educated, what I'm trying to say is that just because someone is a NASCAR fan doesn't make them and ignorant redneck. In fact I generally see a lot more drunk rednecks at Neyland come September. Heck I've never even witnessed a fight of any sort at a race, but just this last season I caught an elbow to the face walking into the stadium that resulted in a busted lip. The reason? One of our own mistook my UT shirt for a UF shirt and wanted to get in a good lick. He even told me so (still never apologized). So ignorance is everywhere.

Ever hear the expression, "no such thing as bad publicity?" Keep Tennessee's positive name out in front of parents and athletes. GO CBJ!
OrangePride writes:
You don't know the first thing about tin ears or ham-handed behavior on the part of anyone at UT. I don't consider an offer to raise you to $300,000 for next year "ham handing." Not enough? OK, we understand. It's a business and JG thinks his offer at FSU is better. No problem, but don't make this about the man being disrespected. About the only thing "dumb, dumber, and dumbest" in this strand is your posts.

General Shofner of the USMC played for General Neyland and was a very smart man.He would not have liked a stupid person using his name.

Now There's a real Race issue regarding Coach Jones that is open for discussion. The FC 500 Is an incredibly exciting event!

I will admit that Kanye and the rest of those fools up there jumping around provide quite a bit of comedic entertainment..

Congratulations; the first step to recovery is admitting you have a problem..
usafvol writes:
Then why didn't you say that rather than offending race fans which I am? It shows your total ignorance towards the sport and fans; just saying..
usafvol writes:
I doubt you talk so much when someones standing right in front of you. You're so typical. Go tell your buds what a big man you are now little boy..

Maybe Johnny should stop and inhale from time to time. It's obvious he isn't getting enough oxygen too his brain. G.B.O.!!!

Talking too yourself is a sure sign of a mental disorder. Maybe you should seek counseling.

Not playing any role for you little man. I just think you're a pathetic little coward who hides behind a computer. Whats really funny is that you know i'm right. lol

I'm not the one responding to my own post. Moron.

I'm laughing as I read what you wrote. You're either about 15 years old or a really pathetic loser. Too bad we can't discuss in person; would be fun to see you soil yourself..

Please excuse me, I didn't know you are a man.

Maybe he's one of Jeff Flowers offspring.
volforeverandever writes:
Yes I knew General Shofner well and he would have explaned it where an idiot like you would have understood it, then you would have been getting his foot out of your rearend.
usafvol writes:
No not at all; It's just been my experience that blowhards like you are typically nothing. The humanitarian in me actually feels sorry for ya..

Maybe. I think he's just another troll trying to get a little attention. He's very funny..

Do you even realize how ignorant you are? Be honest, you're about 15ish, right?

Exposure is good. Now go get a good runningback coach like maybe Calvin Magee! We don't need any more Cincy guys.
Go Vols!

Whatever little boy. Thanks for the cheap entertainment tonight. This weekend when you and your little buddies are playing Dungeons and Dragons, you can tell them all how you trashed me on this site. I'm sure they will be impressed! nite nite
pingkr62 writes:
I think Dungeons and Dragons might be to advanced. I was thinking more along the lines of Pokemon. Also, in one of my earlier posts, I said redbank could be an offspring of jeff flowers, well if you look back through the other posts, there wasn't one from glennfordsfoible. My guess this is jeffy is using ANOTHER screen name. You know he has a history of doing this.
voloffaith writes:
The jeffster is using the typical four word name with spacing that was the name of one of General Neyland's former players. He gets banned and reups to play the game another day.
What is even more sad is the lil spat that just finished between usa and redbankalky.
pingkr62 writes:
I was enjoying that as well. USA seems to be intelligent and articulate, the exact opposite of jeffy the "flower", if you know the context of what is meant by the term "FLOWER" L.O.L!
ZacharyUTK writes:
GREAT for TENNESSEE!
Now what we need is to arrange a neutral-site football game to be played on the infield at Bristol. Could you imagine it? 170,000 fans? It would be the largest college football game in history.
Maybe meet Virginia Tech there? It would be about equidistant.
Theo writes:
One more time Jeff. Fulmer is gone. He is not coming back. No amount of nastiness on your part is going to change that. No amount of irrational hammering of the current staff is going to change that.
You are losing your touch a bit though. You did not mention Dooley at all. I guess that is because you would have to give Dooley credit for hiring Jay Graham. S.....x to be you.
