KNOXVILLE — The buzzer sounded and the Thompson-Boling Arena scoreboard showed unranked Tennessee with 64 points and No. 8 Florida with 58.

This seemingly unexpected conclusion had "storm the court" written all over it. Especially with 19,567 filling the stands, the second largest crowd of the season.

Only the fans didn't rush their heroes late Tuesday evening. Nor did sophomore center Jarnell Stokes -- he of the 14 huge rebounds in just 24 foul-plagued minutes -- expect such behavior.

and yet again I was right. It was a nice win from the 3rd row at TBA. Credit where credit is due. Now we just need to convince Martin to coach the team from November to January each year. I give the department donations each year not for the fun of it, but to watch them win.

why do you think you were right? Martin should be fired? The KY game will be a slaughter? You were wrong on both counts. You watched thegame from the 3rd row? In a previous post you were watching the game from the 2nd row. If you are giving donations why are you not in the same seats? read your past posts. You are a troll that wants the Vols to lose

What I loved about the game was that at no time did the Vols, anyone of them, ever look like they were playing over their head. They never once looked like they were in a panic at the beginning of the game. Even when the lizards looked as if they expected to come in and run away with it, knock off a bunch of points early and never look back. But what Floriduh didn't have, our Volunteers did have. Confidence, stamina, and perserverence throughout the game.
Everyone has beat up players. Maymon is out, Golden's hamstring surely is not totally healed, so I don't want to hear about how the lizards have players out. We do too. That said, the Volunteers looked and most importantly, were the better team, the team who controlled the ebb and flow of the game once they got going. The team who quashed 3 pt shot options, totally won the rebounding wars. CCM got everyone in and contributing; Yemi when he had to come in early, Trae not running up points but running the game, Skylar's 5-Hour Energy defense. But Jordan and Jarnell ... what BEASTS!!! Nicodemus Christopher has to have the best strength and conditioning program in the SEC, give him credit too. Our Volunteers were the team who physically dominated. Coach Martin gets the credit for leading them to believe in themselves when many (see above posts) were giving up. ... now the lizards can drag their tails back to the swamps of the flatlands and lick their wounds while they and their fans must live knowing, and I mean knowing, that they are not the best team in the SEC at the end of the season when it counts!

Wiedmer says "you know who you are" as if he told me so. Yes I am one of those skeptics who has criticized Martin all year for having a listless boring personality, and for heading a boring uninspiring brand of basketball. I also have pointed out the fact we try to dribble out of double teams and don't pass enough, and don't play zone d enough so why not at least try. I have also pointed out that Keady did not win a single national championship in 25 years yet somehow the press keeps pointing to the Purdue brand of basketball as if it is proven and we should aspire to be like that era that Martin played in and teaches.
Guess what- I have not changed a single thought process. I love watching the Vols win, and not giving up. But I do not waver from my feelings about the Martin brand that was exhibited all year. I do not think it is likely Tennessee can win a national championship with it in 25 seasons. Purdue did not with decades of chances. Why would Tennessee?
So yes, Wiedmer, I know exactly who I am.

First of all, its not the same place, not the same coaches, not the same players and on and on. Perhaps the philosophy is the same but it seems to be getting results when results need to happen. Hope we can win a NC and I hope Martin is the one to do it but you can't compare the two and it is pointless when you do. Though glad to hear you know exactly who you are.

Honestly a lot of us have questioned a lot of the aspects of UT basketball this year and some of last season. Both seasons we did as well as Golden pretty much. We just haven't had a backup for him. He's playing great right now and the landsape is different. Better. If Moore keeps coming along as well as the other guards improving I think what's his face posting against Martin will be happier. It's easier now to see the difference Golden can make. I don't even think Golden new.

The same can be said of McRae, Stokes, and a few others. We just plain ole got better. Physically AND mentally.

Gators can't beat Martin or Pearl. Cuonzo is now 3-0 against Billy the Kid.

What's it gonna take for you to become a real Volunteer fan? Do you really judge a coach's ability to coach by his perceived "listless boring personality"? (Martin brand?) Face it, most coaches - no matter the sport - aren't the most engaging personalities (see Geno Auriemma). It usually has squat to do with how good they are at their job.

All coaches of real teams hope that their team will peak at the right time...and now is that time. This team is coming together at just the right time and I think it's great. Sorry your limited understanding keeps you from enjoying it.

Nothing would please me more that to see them shock the world by winning the SEC tourney and make a deep NCAA run. What really excites me is the prospect of next year with a healthy Maymon back in place.

You can choose to be negative if you want (and I know some folks can't be happy unless there's something to complain about). I choose to support my school, my teams and their efforts without basing their success on some jerk's perception of the "personality" of the coach. Geez, some people need to get a life.

Great article from the Chattanooga paper again. It looks beyond the numbers to tell the story and preemptively addresses the "we had injured players" excuse. Good reporting.

Not saying I agree with everything you wrote here but I am glad someone else sees what I see with the whole Gene Keady thing. I go to Purdue and people here worship him. He was a good coach yes, but not nearly as good as the people and media around here would have you think. He went toe to toe with Bob Knight and went about.500 if I'm not mistaken. Look at Matt Painter, look at Bruce Webber neither of them have had perennial powers either. Both had a good team (Illini got to the championship game one year) but that's it. I don't foresee any Keady-family coach winning it all.

I don't like the Keady Purdue brand of basketball that Martin teaches. i find it uninspiring, and historically did not win Purdue a championship in 25 years. i think it is a valid point. That is my honest opinion. I still cheer for the Vols, but if I give my honest assessment, according to you I am not a "real Volunteer," a jerk, negative, and I need to get a life, and have limited understanding unlike yourself
. You extrapolated your opinion by singling out the boring personality part, and ignoring other comments I explained formed my opinion.
So here is a modified comment that may satisfy your parameters of a "true" Vol fan:
"Oh Martin is just brilliant, the Vols are the best! Rah Rah Ree! Who's the best...we are, we are! "

So Keady didn't win a NC. So what? What Keady did or didn't do has little to do with UT now, Coach Martin not withstanding. It's a big stretch trying to connect those dots. This is Cuonzo Martin's team, not Gene Keady's.

I didn't ignore your other comments...I simply believe your "honest assessment" leaves much to be desired...and to be understood. So, I get it...you don't like how we play the game. Perhaps it would be better if we played to your standards and lost?

We're winning. Get on the bus...and kwitcherbellyachin'.
