Muschamp suspends Dunker, parts ways with 3 others

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) — Jessamen Dunker probably will get another chance to play at Florida.

For three of his teammates, their time with the team is over.

Coach Will Muschamp suspended Dunker on Friday following his arrest for allegedly stealing a scooter. Muschamp made the announcement two days after Dunker was charged with a third-degree felony.

Muschamp suspended Dunker, a redshirt freshman expected to compete for a starting job this spring, from all team activities until "we get more information."

"Once we get a little more information, we'll move forward," Muschamp said. "But he's suspended from the team at this time. We'll address that further when I know more."

Dunker's attorney said Thursday that his client paid $600 for the scooter and had no idea it had been reported stolen. The State Attorney's Office is investigating the case and will decide whether to proceed with the charges.

Dunker likely will end up getting reinstated. That won't happen for defensive end Kendric Johnson, receiver Stephen Alli and offensive lineman Tommy Jordan. Muschamp is parting ways with all three of them.

Johnson and Alli, both fourth-year juniors, are scheduled to graduate this spring and will no longer be on scholarship. Jordan, meanwhile, is applying for medical exemption because of a shoulder injury.

"We appreciate those guys' contributions," Muschamp said.

Getting rid of them frees up more scholarships heading into the final few weeks of recruiting.

Two starting offensive linemen, guard Jon Halapio and right tackle Chaz Green, had surgery. So did linebacker Neiron Ball and punt Kyle Christy.

Halapio had arthroscopic knee surgery. Green and Ball had arthroscopic ankle surgery. And Christy had shoulder surgery.

"All of those guys will be able to take part in spring," Muschamp said. "I just don't know how much at this point."

Muschamp also addressed several recent departures.

Defensive coordinator Dan Quinn left Florida on Thursday to take the same position with the NFL's Seattle Seahawks.

"That's probably the only job he would have left here for because of his relationship with John Snyder, the general manger at Seattle, and his relationship with (coach) Pete Carroll," said Muschamp, who promoted linebacker coach D.J. Durkin to coordinator.

Four juniors also made the move to the next level.

Safety Matt Elam, defensive Sharrif Floyd, Linebacker Jelani Jenkins and tight end Jordan Reed all declared for the draft shortly after Florida's 33-23 loss to Louisville in the Sugar Bowl.

"At the end of the day, this is a family decision and it's a personal decision," Muschamp said. "It's not mine or the University of Florida's, and we support them 100 percent. No one understands the situations these guys are in and the circumstances in which they are basing their decisions on. ... Our doors are always open for those guys."

Show us a receipt or a bill of sale. Until you offer some proof we only have your word you paid for it, which by the way the original owner never sold. Why draw this out any longer, show us the proof and give a description of the person who sold you the scooter and get on with it.

If he is allowed back, he won't play against the Vols. He wouldn't be needed anyway.

Just a couple of points.
1. Dunker probably does not read this site and won't be answering you.
2. I don't believe that he has to report back to you. I would guess the DA is asking for this information.

Slick Willie is channeling the Urban Meyer model for discipline. "Just win baby."

He may only suspend him through Spring practice..That'll definitely get the message sent that Slick Willie means business..

I want to thank KNS for putting Gator stories on the site the last couple of days. Certainly there was no interest in stories about the Vols losing another basketball game to be last place in the SEC.

Third-degree felony charge, that will probably require being suspended for the first half of the spring game. That's justice, gater style.

Your comment and the response to Dunker's felony arrest are further proof that you, Muschamp, and the Florida Gators are trash. Football is cyclical, Tennessee will be back on top in a few years. Until then, bask in the glory of your trash football team with the rest of your trash fans.

Did you enjoy the Sugar Bowl (Louisville) as much as I did? Couldn't have happened to a better group of people. Talk about a beat down!

A Florida Third Degree Felony is the least of Florida's felony crimes. Punishable by up to 5 years in prison and a $5000 dollar fine.

That said, we really don't know what happened. Too many possible scenarios. Best case for the kid is he did indeed make a handshake deal with the owner and expected to get a receipt and title transfer; but the seller saw he could keep the money and the scooter by reporting it stolen, but Dunker has some way to corroborate his story. Dumbest (worser than worst case) case, he stole the scooter. An IF, that's the case, he proly cuddn'ta larnt college football ways anyhows! But he went to that flatland school in the sand an pines whar Urban (who recruits kids who do wanna go to class nohow) usata coach.
