New Tennessee coach Butch Jones sent a letter to parents of football players last week to introduce himself and invite parents to a Family Day barbecue on March 16.

Parents of players, Jones wrote, are welcome to call him at any time.

"I look forward to meeting you and being part of your son's life," Jones said.

Jones told parents that players were "being introduced" to his seven core values: loyalty, commitment, family, honesty, accountability, focus and persistence.

"These seven core values can be values that guide your son throughout his entire life and enrich and reward his family life," Jones wrote. "Players, coaches and staff that live life the right way, attend classes and tutorial sessions and put forth great effort cannot be stopped short of success because they are too invested in making sure they cannot fail."

These are all laudable values. Coach Jones, by sending such a letter to the parents of our players appears to be making a commitment to more than just coaching football. All Volunteer fans should support Coach Jones and his staff as they work to instill these values and hope that this translates into the atheletes who are under him becoming winners on the field as well as in life.

Enki,

Your comments were without a doubt as well expressed as any that have ever been posted on this site.
Actually, even though you addressed the presence of trolls like this kid, in reality, they don't mind being identified as such. They just like the attention, any way they can get it. We need to recognize the certain trolls who hang out here have no actual allegiance to any school.........this is known as a band wagon fan, and they have this jealous agenda with Tennessee.....for whatever the reason.

Anyway, thanks for the great post. It's nice to see there are quality individuals around, and we can therefore sort out the usual trolls and whiny anti-Vol pretendors, and move ahead.

The av. star rating for a Florida recruit is 3.6.Are you saying that .6 % of a star makes all the difference as to whether a team can win a championship ? As I recall the star av. for Lou. Cards was less than 3 but they still kicked Floridas butt up and down the field all night long.

Dc= District of Columbia? Oh boy has the grand poohvah fooled you to? Watch the constitution continue to get trampled on by such...Like it is said ,"You got what you paid for." Nice man . No concern for doing the proper thing properly. I've got to go hide my cap gun and Bible as both will be illegal down the road...just kidding on the Bible. As long as I keep it at home or house of worship no arrests will be made. Oh btw in company email yesterday a new tax(none coming right?) on gift cards that employee may have received as result of leading a contest ONLY has a 40% tax on it. Ah the benevolent OZ has said,"We've only just begun."

On topic, If Coach Jones wants to make parents comfortable with him is that ok? Yes the chillins need to grow up , but there is a weaning process/timeline that comes for both as saying bye to Johhny/Johnette easier said than done.

I do not see how the NCAA can object to this but then again we are talking about the NCAA. I think the more involved the parents are with the players and team the less likely the players are to have problems off the field. It was not all that long ago that UT players were having run ins with the police almost on a daily basis

As always, Witchy, you penetrate to the heart of the matter! It has bothered me ever since "it" happened that the noble term "BBQ" was sullied by using it to describe a mere backyard cookout.
