Florida hires South Carolina's Brad Lawing as defensive line coach

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) — Brad Lawing has left South Carolina to become Florida's defensive line coach and assistant head coach.

Lawing has 33 years of coaching experience, including 29 on the defensive line. He had been South Carolina's D-line coach since 2006 and just finished his 17th season with the Gamecocks.

He replaces Dan Quinn, who was Florida's defensive coordinator and line coach. Quinn left last week, returning to the NFL as Seattle's defensive coordinator.

Gators coach Will Muschamp says Lawing's "track record speaks for itself. His nearly three decades of experience coaching defensive lineman, his familiarity with the SEC and our shared philosophical beliefs make him a perfect fit for our program."

Florida lost junior defensive tackle Sharrif Floyd, but returns Dominique Easley, Ron Powell, Damien Jacobs, Dante Fowler and Jonathan Bullard.

Another great hire by Coach Muschamp. Vols must be saying.."only-if"....

Nope, 99% of our fans were too busy predicting 42-14 UT vs FL victories and Muschamp's firing in 2012 while they drank jugs of Doolaid till the bitter end. If the average Vol fan does anything this time around please make Coach Jones prove himself here before crowning him the next Saban/Neyland. It will work out better for you in the end and you will not have to change screen names for the 4th time in 5 years.

Only my faith prevents me from saying what I am really thinking. I have not decided who holds his temper the best, the "hat slapping" Spurrier, or the "hair pulling" Slick Willie. I'll just let it go at that. As for 8inarow, pride goes before destruction and haughtiness before a fall. I am sure I read that somewhere.

Elrod, he is known as "Coach Boom". I guess if 7 coaches, including Muschamp turned down UF, I would try to come up with names for him also.

At any rate, Slick Willie will be 9 straight against the Vols this September, and, if your recruiting continues the way it is, it will probably 12 before you even have a chance.

You post anything to be negative toward the Vols. Let me think, Never heard of this guy and where was South carolina in 2006, 2007,2008, 2009. Good luck Fla. You got an average hire. Only Vol haters rank him high. The dam is about to break. Louisville made Muschamp look less than average.

Joker Phillips is now on the Florida staff as well, is that what you mean by another great hire?

little zz as much as you troll this site you should know that seven teeth is no Vol fan. He is a pot stirring, instigating, scum bag troll like you

SewaneeVolFan writes:

Don't want to give any credit to trolls, but it IS true that Joker is a great recruiter and an excellent wide receivers coach. Furthermore, as a head coach he was a disciplinarian, which, if he's allowed to continue that for Fla. will be a good thing. As far as all the other trolling remarks, I believe Coach B UT ch will do just fine (especially with his "infallible" offense), so we'll see in the years ahead. Right now, he and his staff are doing all they can to get the best possible players to come to Rocky Top, connecting with the fans, local high school coaches, parents, and former Vols, all good things to do, all things that'll help in the future, too.

Yep this board has grown old. If we take a coach people post the other team did not want him. If we hire someone up and coming, he is unknown. Florida steals a coach and it is suppose to spell our doom. Nothing about him leaving SC, or why he left, and nothing about why did Florida lose the last guy. Anything anyone can say negative about the Vols your sure to find here 98% of the time. Sad, really sad.

The word "amazing" is not adequate to express the reality that other teams trolls want to spend time on our (or any other team's site.) Don't these folks team have one of their own? I certainly don't look at theirs nor will I? The day you find me on another teams site, someone call the guys in the white suits that drive the padded wagon! So, what is their fascination with ours? Maybe it is:
1. a contentious spirit
2. arrogant pride
3. emotional need to have others focus on him
4. Idleness...which is the devils workshop
5. need to improve self esteem by belittling others
6. or a combination of 1 or more or all of the above.
Amazing! I wish they would find, whatever it is that drives them, to another site.
