Lady Vols fall to Georgia Tech in tennis

LINCOLN, Neb. — The No. 23 Tennessee Lady Vols tennis team was shut out in the ITA Kickoff on the University of Nebraska campus over the weekend. A day after losing to Nebraska 4-3 in their first dual match of the season, the Lady Vols were knocked off 4-2 at the hands of No. 22 Georgia Tech.

Tennessee was strong at the top part of its lineup, with No. 23 Brynn Boren and No. 25 Kata Szekely picking up wins at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, respectively. Boren's 6-1, 6-3 victory over No. 39 Elizabeth Kilborn and Szekely's 6-3, 6-2 win over Kendal Woodard gave UT a 2-1 edge after the Lady Vols dropped the doubles point.

Boren and Szekely also teamed together to win in doubles. Their 8-4 victory over Kilborn and Alex Anghelescu improved the duo to 21-4 on the season a day after a rare defeat at the hands of Georgia Tech.
