Updated odds for all of Tennessee's football targets

KNOXVILLE, Tennessee -- We made some minor changes to the list, tweaking a few percentages slightly. I also added four-star WR Shelton Richardson, a West Virginia commitment who I had forgotten to include on the first installment.

So, according to the odds, we sign 3 players to our current list of 16 for 19 players on NSD. Since one of those is Bell, maybe we'll crack the top 25... Ouch!

scvols writes:

Wow! If we get the 3 that we have the odds on we will still be 12th in the SEC. We may never get to go to a bowl game again.

Looks like we will not realize an upgrade at the running back position. I hope that Neal and Lane can acclamate to the new offense and of course the new qb gets off to a good start. We can't expect too much this year in recruiting but I was certainly hoping. I am less concerned with 12th in the SEC or not in the top 20 in the nation and more concerned that we get quality players who can be coached up and we have a staff which can and will do that. Next Wednesday will come quickly. I am still hopeful a top guy or two or three will get on board. GO BIG ORANGE!

I study the rankings for several teams and their rosters..one important factor to look at is the player strength ratings..UT has about 3.17 and about the same as Vandy..UT needs more numbers and even if they are 3 star they could end up with a good class.. not a great class..but a good class..if they happen to get Bell and 4 more players ..they could jump to about #20..

Next year's NSD will be much more telling than this one as far as CBJ's impact on the program. However, I still think we get a couple of big names this year. Putting some stock in the quality of CBJ and his staff's late pushes for those recruits instead of Ethan's psychic abilities.

Go Vols!

Here is the bad part, you may be right. If Jones can not win 6 or 7 games next year, then no one will want to come to UT. We will have another below 25 class and the losing will continue.

voodoo101 writes:

Regardless of the odds, this class keeps dropping according to Rivals - both in number of recruits and their "quality points". That says the better recruits are the ones dropping out. Playing musical chairs with coaches is a slippery slope.

Rumblefish writes:

Jones is gonna have to win with lesser talent in order to bring in the higher rated players.

Good luck with that Butch. That ain't gonna be as easy to do in the SEC like he did in with Central Mich and Cincy.

And since this crack KNS staff can't get a bathroom pass from the UT football office, they put this pablum out knowing many are starved for any scrap of info, made up from a dog pile or otherwise.

Unfortunately, he knows no more than we do. Just guessing and in some cases when a kid is not even coming for a visit, stating the obvious.

After reading the self-indulged, holier-than-thou GARBAGE you try to pass off as fact, any normal person comes to the conclusion that you're one of two things. You're either an internet TROLL/POSER/FRAUD trying to damage UT recruiting (TRYING), or you're just a complete IDIOT.

The ONLY possibilities are one of those two choices. There is NO WAY any sane person on here believes any of the BS you shovel. You are simply here to trash UT.

Blaming a brand new head coach, instead of the 4 changes in 6 years, for us being behind in recruiting, is all the proof anybody needs to see that you are one TOTAL bufoon in either case.

Looks like CBJ will have to buck the odds to pull a really good class, but most of us knew that from the beginning. I agree with the poster above who said people will need to see some success or at least improved competitiveness on the field to give UT a real shot at the top-level recruits, but again, that was pretty much inherent in the situation.

Yeah, I agree that numbers like this are exercises in misplaced definiteness. However, I think it is an NCAA rule that coaches can't say anything publicly about recruits that haven't been signed yet. Even if Woodberry had any inside info from coaches, he couldn't acknowledge it for that reason, so as far as anybody else knew, he would still just be guessing.

I wouldn't be a bit surprised if UT is in the top 15 after NSD..However, if they're not in the top 25 it won't be the end of the world..Dooley and Kiffin approached recruiting for the stars not necessarily for need, which I believe CBJ has proven his method produces wins.

UTH: Do you have an answer... I just noticed Louisvill's current recruits on Scout.com and noticed that 11 of their commits are JUCO's. With the finish they had why would they need to recruit jucos so heavily? maybe this is route we should take for the next couple of years?

Oh yes. I'm quite certain that Jimmy Cheek would pay close attention to that dweeb. If GF was lucky, Cheek might let him mow his grass. Given his track record, I doubt he could handle that though. Maybe washing his car.....

I did check Louisville early but not lately and did not know they had 11 jucos..I know W Ky Petrino had some last time I checked and Ky had some..I think Dooley was concentrating heavily on getting more jucos..and it obviously is the way to a quick fix..I think Louisville ..Charlie Strong ..has a strong recruiting point with his win over Fla and QB Bridgewater coming back..that guy played some kind of game against Fla...lot of pro scouts will be watching this team and juco players want to get all the attention they can..I don't look at scout as much as rivals..but I am going to ..do you know if the Kentucky player who decommitted from Southern Cal is going to Louisville...

manniesghost1903 writes:

Let us try to make this an intelligent conversation. Coach Dooley (Derek not Vince), Kiffin and Fullmer are now "past" Head Football Coaches at UT. If you were in Butch Jones' shoes last December which job would you decide to take Colorado or Tennessee. On the surface, Colorado would appear to be a much easier job than UT. The majority of disasterous action occurred under Mike Hamilton, Lane Kiffin and Derek Dooley.

Coach Jones is probably the most qualified available experienced coach to take on the UT job since Coach Fulmer was fired. Even at that, he may not succeed in 4 to 5 years but I rather have him in charge as anyone else.

Here is something to consider. Right now according to ESPNU there are 21 high school prospects which have received scholarship offers from UT who are uncommitted and rated higher then QB prospect and commitment, Riley Ferguson. I am sure UT will not sign all or any of them. However, gaining one or more of these prospects with some additional basic SEC type recruits could significantly change UT's rating and future prospects. Remember, next recruiting year will contain sons of former UT stars who would have not had any interest in playing for UT under Coach Dooley (Derek, not Vince). If Coach Jones can produce a couple of quality wins this year UT might be on the way back. Let's face it, that is a big "If" right now.

11 or one..

What most of you idiots don't realize is that the reason we are behind in recruiting rankings is we only have 17 players committed when other schools have almost acquired all they are allowed. As one poster said already even if we sign nothing but 3* committs the rest of the way we will move up. Try looking a little deeper at facts before you spout off your negative rhetoric and bashing of the coaches, AD etc. You people would bi!ch if you won the powerball about having to pay taxes. Pathetic
