Bashaara Graves scores 13 points in U.S. victory

Tennessee’s Bashaara Graves scored 13 points and grabbed a team-high seven rebounds and the U.S. had an easy time against host country Lithuania, 113-47, on Thursday in pool play at the FIBA U19 World Championship for Women in Panevezys.

Graves, who started at power forward, was 5-of-7 from the field and 3-of-4 from the free-throw line in a team-high 21 minutes. She added two assists, a steal and a blocked shot.

“It was good to be on the floor playing in front of that crowd, especially in front of the (Lithuanian) home crowd,” said Graves. “We had a lot of energy and we played very well.”

The U.S. will play China on Friday at 1:15 p.m. Eastern.

Wow! I cannot wait to see her play this year. I think the international experience can't do anything but improve her, not that she needs a whole lot of improvement.

Me too! As young as Bashaara is, every year spent productively is a significant addition to her lifetime store of basketball knowledge. She seems to know what shots to take and we know she is a terror on the boards. The only things I worry about with this out-of-season play are burnout late in the college season or an injury or some foreign illness that sets them back at the beginning. All the rest of it--the travel, the acquaintance of other coaches and teammates, the competition--is all to the good, as long as the players are perfecting roles they will have to fulfill for the LVs when it counts most, especially for us fans.
