Tennessee will officially begin its first football season under new coach Butch Jones when players officially report for practice on Aug. 1, according to a scheduled released by UT.

The Vols' first practice will be on Aug. 2.

The practices are closed to the public, although Jones has said he would like to have one open practice, possibly at Neyland Stadium. Details on the open practice are pending, UT said.

The Vols practiced early in the morning last year under former coach Derek Dooley and in spring ball under Jones, but are switching back to an afternoon schedule for the fall.

Two-a-day practice sessions are scheduled on Aug. 12, 14 and 17.

Cap'n on the deck blows his lil whistle and says," Now hear this..." Then mommy ruins the whole thing by saying ,"Tommy time to get out of the tub.."

On topic, realist know this is a hard schedule with so many unanswered questions about the team. So a 4-8 might be realistic, but when you get nasty and throw in the 'kool-aid' reference you've played your cards and your bluff has been called................

Tennessee will definitely beat Vandy, Auburn and Missouri along with the other 4 mentioned. A minimum of 7 wins. So, 7-5 or better.

Well, 8 - 4 is just a given. Of the first 5 games we know 3 - 2 is given. Everyone is writing off the Oregon game simply because of their rep. They don't play in the SEC do they? Is it a loud place to play? Yes. But we are going to kick-off there at noon PDT. Little out of character for that stadium. How easy will it be for Oregon to overlook the fact there is a ballgame to play BEFORE they celebrate the "message" sent to the SEC. Can they stop our offensive line? Nowhere in the west is there a line that big and experienced. Nowhere. They've never seen anything like it. Think they might be relaxed and licking their chops to go against the defense that's in their film room? Last years' defense? Not this years'. A defense that practices at the same pace that Oregon does. That has schemes for edge-attack offenses. That lines up ready. Whole different animal. I just think it smells so much like an upset.

The belly crawlers...one word...Louisville.

Truth be told, going into the GA game at 4 - 1 would be more likely...but...we have the best coaching staff in the nation and the plan is infallible. Right? Who would believe #1 recruiting class 8 months ago. Yet here it is for now.

Team #117 is going to catch 1 if not 2 teams early who think last years results are all we've got.

I like the way you think, bUTch! Wouldn't it be something if CBJ and the Vols just opened up some cans of unexpected "kick-butt" this year? Yep, but it wouldn't totally shock me. Like most fans, I'm pretty optimistic in the preseason. I was last year, too, but there were too many disturbing elements surfacing for me to believe it would be a good year, and that was before I knew how bad the defense was. Things could still just go "BLOOEY!" in the fall, and we will all be in despair. But somehow I just don't think that's going to happen. The Vols may not win 'em all, but they'll win some they "shouldn't" and give some of the big boys all they want. Before long, the Vols will be "big boys", too.
