Marlin Lane’s return hasn’t officially been confirmed by the Tennessee football program, but two sources told govols247 on Thursday that that’s only a formality at this point.

In other words, Lane is again working out with the team in the summer strength and conditioning program, and the junior tailback’s return should be officially announced in the near future.

Gonna need him. I expect him to return with the proverbial "chip" and have a big year behind an experienced OL.

Two hopes for him: that his issues are really resolved for good and that he makes a great contribution to the BO.

I would agree in that I was hopeful for more from Marlin Lane after he spurned Clemson, and choose to attend UT. However, I believe M. Lane's reinstatement is potentially a major development for a couple of reasons.
1.) Jabo Lee failed to qualify. So, if Marlin failed to earn his place back on the roster, and Raijon were to go down, then we would have essentially been down to unproven Alden Hill at tailback. While I understand Hill has had an impressive spring, that would have been a precarious situation.
2.) Perhaps Marlin will have a new drive towards consistency with a new coaching staff, and a second chance.

Go Vols
