Tennessee’s Raven Chavanne and Lauren Gibson were named to the 2013 USA Softball Women’s National Team on Friday.
The roster of 18 was picked after tryouts in Oklahoma City. UT co-head coach Karen Weekly will be an assistant coach.
The team will regroup in July for its first competition, the World Cup of Softball, July 11-14 in Oklahoma City. Following the World Cup, Team USA will compete in events in the U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico.
Gibson, the 2013 SEC player of the year, is a two-year veteran of Team USA at second base. She led the team last year with a .500 batting average as Team USA won the gold medal at the World Cup of Softball.
Chavanne last represented the U.S. in 2010 as a member of the USA Softball Women’s Futures National Team.
