GoVols247: Linebacker Bryant commits to Tennessee

After visiting Tennessee for the first time last week, Gavin Bryant decided he had seen enough.

The four-star rising senior linebacker from Jackson (Ala.) High School committed to the Vols on Monday afternoon, just three days after he made his first visit to Knoxville, helping Tennessee take another step toward addressing one of its most glaring needs in the 2014 class.

Welcome aboard. You'll be part of a group that brings TN football back to big time football.

It sure was great to see that crawl on ESPN. Even in the good ole days we weren't seeing such great recruiting news this early in the year. Only thirteen more guys will be able to be a part of this very special group.

According to ESPN, he's a 4 star..

I believe offers are more important than stars. This guy had many offers.

Some sources have him as a 3*, but many have him as a 4*. Either way he was the 18th LB in the country and he's going to be a Vol..GBO!!

It is amazing at the recruiting news that seems to come every week! Butch Jones is tearing it up on the recruiting trail. If we have any inkling of a pulse this year on the field and can knock off a team that we are not supposed to beat, I believe the floodgates will completely open. Also impressive to me is that we already have several verbals for the 2015 class. We have not seen that in the past 3 years. I believe the former coach only began to worry about a recruiting class once the previous one had been signed. I like what I am seeing thus far and hope that the product on the field matches this energy in recruiting!

Thought I remember him stating he would announce at a camp in Oregon. Read between the lines and looks shaky for Vols to get him. Anyway he still hasn't announced so all is still on the table . Congrats on the LB from Alabama.

this kid is such a natural at the linebacker position . i was looking at the projections from some of the recruiting analysts on this kid and the first 7 i looked at all predicted this kid was going to Bama . i think our coaches have been really careful/picky in offering linebackers because its such a glaring need .i doubt Bama is going to give up on recruiting this kid that easily ,probably havent heard the last from them .

Do you all really think Dillion Bates would not come to Tennessee? Everything I have heard says he is a virtual lock.

While I think he will commit to UT, we all know there are no guarantees in recruiting.

Bama already has 2 ILB commits. No interest but the Barn may not be through and this kid prefers to stay instate. Check his interview on al.com. Roll Tide

I believe he decommitted because we got a verbal from Brandon Powell, a very similar type athlete that will likely play WR. Apparently, Lee is afraid of competition. However, this was info through Twitter, so who knows if it's true.

OK, thanks. If it is true the VOLS are better off without him. At the same time I think you cannot have too many receivers.

BluezVol writes:

I wonder....

if Saban put this kid up to "decommitting" to improve Bama's chances for Dillon Bates? Then "surprisingly" he commits back to Bama just befoe or on signing day. Stranger things have happened with high school recruits and I wouldn't put anything past Saban.

If you think Rivals is the only rating that matters you don't know squat about recruiting. It all depends on what camps they attend to get exposure.

True That! It's great to have all these commits and we while we all love how CBJ and staff are performing on the recruiting trail, we have to know that lots of things will change before NSD 2014.

The stars change. A kid with a great Jr. year who gets 3* might wind up his Sr. year as a 5*. Or a recruit who was a 4* Jr. and potential 5* Sr. can drop out of the picture with injury or grades.

The number of schools, and which ones, expressing interest in a high school athlete is possibly a better indicator of their on and off field potential.

What I want to do is to welcome all the young men who choose the Tennessee Volunteers Football Family and encourage them to stay and become leaders on the field, in the classroom, and in life. To be Torchbearers of the Volunteer Spirit.

It's Great To Be a Tennessee Volunteer!

This rating indicates that he is talented, but is not so high as that it should give him a big head and think that the world is his oyster.

Two great QBs at UT came from Alabama, Tee Martin and, the player that I feel is the most exciting player ever to wear the orange, Condredge Holoway. UA seems to have survived their defection pretty well.

I agree, sometimes a 5* can be too full of himself to allow coaching to do their job.

some fans will use stars when it suits their team and the minute it favors an opponents recruiting then stars dont mean chit. this dude is a baller and Saban has the luxury of having top recruits wet their pants waiting for Updyke U to offer ,something Jones doesnt have YET. This kid is a quality recruit and im sure Saban/Satan knows that .Remember how Bear used to sign them and bench them just so the Vols could not. this kid wanted an offer from in state schools and when he didnt get it he found shangri la beneath the Sun Sphere .at the very least your boy Gavin Bryant could knock the Randy Sanders tattoo off most of these Trolls !

Sorry if you don't like me pointing out your lack of knowledge on recruiting....no I'm not really sorry at all..get over it, moron!

Really didn't think it was that bad. Seems as though GVX may be protecting their own. Just don't quite understand why this is supposed to be a TN website, but if you disagree with or say anything to the trolls you have your post removed. Pure sensationalism to try to draw a few more hits. Protect the trolls and let the long time Volunteer fans get used to it. I have seen a lot worse comments than I made posted by the trolls and slide right through. The more hits the better for these guys, it doesn't matter how bad they bash MY VOLS, as long as they run up he numbers. (Pathetic) Read it fast, it won't laast long.

This Ghost characters comments are some of the most arrogant, pompous comments ever. She knows nothing but thinks she knows everything. Typical troll.

I only have one question, if you are truly only one person as you claim, and you created your name May of this year, how exactly do you know that 99% of us have been wrong since this site's inception? Unless....you have more than one name. GASP! Could it be?

I've watched some of this kid's highlights, and he seems pretty legitimate. It does worry me that he really wants to play in-state. From my persepective of what he has said, he committed to UT before we filled our spots. It seems if things stand as they are, and Bama doesn't extend an offer, we'll keep him. But I wouldn't be suprised to see him jump ship if Bama offers

not saying that you're right, or wrong, but i certainly agree! it's not really about quality (good opinions, good facts). it's more about quantity (number of hits, like you said) and popularity (i guess the more people get on here and argue with each other, the better??). someone mentioned how some of these usernames might be actual employees of the site: i can see that.

Of course they're employees of this site. They are paid or given favors to start s*** on this site. Why else would the webmaster let this stuff continue on a site that was supposed to be a discussion board for UT sports. I guess they think they are the only ones smart enough to figure this out.

I feel that was a valid question. You get angry when people accuse you of having more than one screen name, yet you only joined the site May 31, 2013. In the previous comment I replied to, you grumble on about how 99% of us have been wrong since the site's inception. It would appear to me that since you've been a member, there's been nothing to be wrong about. So how do you know? Unless you have multiple screen names. Or, after years of reading articles and comments, you finally decided to start calling your fellow fans out for every positive thing we try to cling to about our dismal football program. So what if we're sunshine pumpers. Who in the heck wants to go through life depressed all the time? It's a miserable existence. If we want to be optimistic about UT football, what concern of that is yours? How does it affect your life? I own season tickets, and donate to the school, because I support this program, no matter who's in charge. This is my favorite team. I live and bleed orange. Can't we just accept that we share that common interest and agree that we see some things differently without needing to be so rude and pompous? I'll agree to stop if you will.
