Four Vanderbilt football players suspended amid sex crimes investigation

Four Vanderbilt football players have been suspended amid a sex crimes investigation by Metro police.

Metro police Friday afternoon were keeping a tight lid on details of the incident.

“I can confirm that the Metropolitan Police Department’s Sex Crimes Unit began an investigation on Wednesday in regard to a matter that was alleged to have occurred at a Vanderbilt University dormitory,” said Don Aaron, spokesman for Metro police. “Our sex crimes detectives became involved as the result of a notification to us on Wednesday from Vanderbilt University police. The investigation remains very much in progress.”

Aaron said he couldn’t elaborate on details of the investigation, but confirmed it was related to a 5:30 p.m. announcement by Vanderbilt University that detailed the suspensions.

Bones never lie.

Pressure to win! Even Vandy went out and recruited some thugs. Problem is most thugs can barely write their name must less pass entrance exam or have grades to get in Vanderbilt.

There's always 2 (or more) sides to a story.

Funny, but I can't remember the last UT player accused of rape? I've seen a Gator charged with murder and some Vandy guys accused of rape just this week though. Oh, and I almost forgot about the Mississippi State LB kicked off the team this week for beating up his girlfriend AGAIN.

Nerds just don't understand how to conduct a legal, safe, old fashion Panty Raid. College guys have been doing PR's for so long, there probably are a bunch of manuals on the subject in the library.

Nilo Sylvan was charged with rape and dismissed from the team by Phil Fulmer after John Adams screamed bloody murder about his lack of discipline. It was later discovered that the girl was lying and Nilo had not touched her. Too, late Nilo lost his senior season and any chance at a pro career.

Dang it anyway: WD is right. But we can at least think bad thoughts about Vandy, right?

Nilo was one of the best punt returners in UT history and would have definitely gotten a shot in the NFL. After the Nilo incident, I always reserve judgement until all the facts come out. The Duke situation only reinforced that for me. Rape is among the most heinous crimes but false rape accusations also cause irreversible damage. Best just to let all the facts come out instead of speculating either way. No reason to "John Adams" the situation at this point.

Orange Beach clown is actually a Gump fan

Looks like a big difference between Nashville police and media, and Knoxville police and media. If this had been @ UT we would already have heard a rumour about which 4, then would have known the names of the 4 suspended, and seen their names and pictures on the FRONT PAGE of the paper. There would also be wide speculation on how much the coach knew and when he knew it.

According to the local ABC affiliate (WKRN) in Nashville, the four have been DISMISSED by the team and are awaiting word on their status as students @ Vanderbilt...... And still no names as to who this is.

That would be Nitro Nilo Sylvan. Saw him return a few kicks in my day.

I agree with you and others that a little humility is due when one is contemplating the troubles of others. However, there is the old idea of schadenfreude, guilty pleasure in the misfortunes of others, that creeps in when I think of all the trolls who have tried to portray UT as somehow morally inferior to the "better" schools.

That said, there are two things that should be considered. First, college athletes are of the age cohort responsible for a vastly disproportionate rate of crimes of all types. The second thing is that college athletes are responsible for a vastly lower percentage of that crime than their overall demographic. The incidence of crime of all types is lower for college athletes than it is for members of the armed services of the same age. Anyone not totally immersed in partisanship would have to admit on the evidence that college athletes are for the most part fairly decent human beings whom anyone can respect, granted that there are very large exceptions for individuals.

So for all those for whom schadenfreude is a favored diet, have at it. Almost too obvious to mention, but what goes around comes around.

No matter, the point was your school has a past of improper behavior with strippers/coeds. The pot calling the kettle black if you will.

You're right, when bammer thugs rob you it's with real weapons. Remember Bobby Humphrey held up at a South Florida Hotel after robbing some drug dealers and threatening to kill himself?

I also remember watching Bobby Humphrey run for 225 yds. in Neyboob in 1986, while he was at Alabama. I also remember a UThug in a dui hit and run manslaughter several years ago. What's your point?
