I have to say, none of these options seem like they have any relevance to making students want to attend games....
The only one I can see that might be of little relevance would be the cell phone reception, considering young people have their smart phones glued to their hands 24-7.
Lower the price of student tickets? I thought student tickets were $10.00. Whats so bad about that? GIVE ME a $10.00 ticket haha
The only thing that will help bring more students and fans to Neyland is to WIN! Lets go coach Jones!

I would gladly take a student ticket, although its in the rowdy section, for $10 and be on the sidelines, so sell any extras to me, and I can resell the to my old wrinkled friends.

Once the students start seeing the Establishment slowly taking over the student section (again), they may find an interest in selling it themselves each game.

Students don't sit as much as we do HSB. Could be a problem.

madrigal writes:

Don't price the tickets out of the market, give them a decent place to sit, and stop treating them like second-class citizens.

My daughter will be a sophomore this year. She went to one home game, but isn't interested in going again. Her complaint: too many obnoxious drunks. My personal complaint is that its just too crowded in the stadium. The seats are spaced for 10-year old kids apparently.

I agree that winning cures a lot, however, in the 70s, 80s and 90s students went to the home games regardless. These days there are more kids that like to sit inside and play video games, surf the internet, or text each other.

Win and get back to scheduling a Marquee out of conference team. Of course when the SEC goes to a nine game conference schedule, that will probably make them schedule 3 creampuffs.

Stop scheduling so many horrible, small school opponents.

Winning is the big key. I remember going to the LSU game in 1988 and sitting in the student section (one of my first games as a student) and the place was a ghost town.

volswinsome writes:

As a UT grad, it's a _____ crime they even charge students for tickets. I was there from 98-01 and they were free like they should be.

And to anyone that thinks $10 isn't a HUGE amount of money to a college kid...I remember when I used to live an entire week on $10. It's a big deal when you live off $0.29 hamburger Wednesday's at Mcdonalds, 10 cent beer nights on the strip. You can live well on $10 not spent on watching a fball game.

Let the kids in for freeeeee!

Thanks for the reminder. I'll be sure to pick-up a Hernandez jersey for you while I'm there... I hear they're a steal right now.

The problem is not with the AD, Admin, shedule, seating, or current performance.
The problem is with the students! Ut needs to recruit more student interested in sports and less interested in social media!

WetumpkaThumpa writes:

The student rec center, swimming pool, intramural facilities and every other sport at UT are covered by the activity fee. Ten bucks isn't asking much for SEC football tickets.

fratricide08 writes:

You gotta do what Pearl did and act like you give a darn about students. Lower the price as students already pay for tix through 'activities fees' that are ever increasing and every single one of them is aware of that. You also need to allow students the space to be kids -- and honestly, stop scanning student ID cards to make sure they're 'real students.' A lot of students have college age friends they used to take to the game and many used to take advantage of buying two so they could sell one and cover the cost of the ticket. When that was allowed more students attended games even though most didn't sell their tickets. You've also got to give students more physical space. The frats are often there first and regular students are stuck with buying one ticket (not many want to go to a game by themselves).

Organize things for students to do at the games and spread the word -- I'm talking things that the general public isn't aware of. AND host pre-game events that ONLY students are allowed into.

IOW, make students feel special instead of shut out.

Darth_Shivo writes:

I think what some are overlooking is alcohol. If a student wants to drink at the games, he has to smuggle it in and have security fondle his crotch in an attempt to keep it out. Get rid of the head in the sand "alcohol free campus" policy and sell beer at the games. You'll attract students in and make money from it too.

Let students in for free. The athletic department will not lose anything in the long run. Students learn to enjoy the fun of attending in person and will continue attending after graduation.

DO NOT play piped in music over the PA system. The pros and some schools do this now (Vandy & bama to name 2). It really distracts from the fun of the game. One of the things I like best about the games is listening to both the "Pride of the Southland" and visiting bands. Let the pros have the PA music. We have live music.
